do you speed read?

Some what, if I've been reading for 20 mins or so the internal vocalization fades out and my reading speed picks up, otherwise not really - I have to "relax" with the book.

i find it very distracting to read in my head. i read aloud, because i don't lose part of any of the diction in what i'm reading. whatever works for you, is best... but i just think that if one is gonna read in their head, the internal dialogue is pretty important, but maybe it's just me... cause me, i really need to "relax" if i'm reading in my head, so i can hear what i am reading "in my head"; this way i don't read too fast, and skip sometimes important diction.

you might just be a shit ton better at it, than i am though; i have thought about the fact that at some point, if i'm gonna want to maintain this hobby, i might have to practise reading quietly, and to "relax".

I find it a bit easier to relax when there is some classical music in the background - I suggest anything from Tchaikovsky

yeah, me too, actually. i started the Road awhile ago... with this...

and it was perfect, mood-wise, and in it's relaxing capabilities.

:highfive: but sure Tchaikovsky, why not...

PS: i'm just saying, i need to relax when i feel like reading in my head; because if i don't have that internal dialogue of what the author is saying, in my head, then i find myself grazing over lines, as if i've read them (the simpler, the more likely) but though i haven't, only just got the context maybe but almost certainly never completely, and plus, i tend to miss things that i'd tend to find important to ponder about, from the author. and with all that, i eventually just lose focus entirely.

PPS: "maybe but almost certainly never completely" - lol

Its regimented, most things are out of your control and you operate solely for those rare moments where you can bring those you love together. It sounds terrible but on the one hand you are holding yourself on your own, you rely on no one and you define your own existence. Its freedom, but its also a huge burden.

sounds like my fake world just the same.

oh well, i hope all is well, regardless. a regiment isn't... it isn't the end of the world. just ask jboredone. he hasn't done anything dire yet.

PS: this isn't me being glib. seriously, a regiment isn't... the end of the world; it's just the end of your being aloft, without burden. i'm gonna hold off, as long as i can, i think... i'd rather... well... not burden myself. guess that makes me evil.

I don't sleep and do 48h stints. I can't just lay in bed and be bored.

Too little hours in life to sleep them away. (or so I tell myself to soothe the mind)

and yes Akira, speedreading + imagethinking = better then any movie. After a while you just visualize and you're reading pages in eyeblinks

Now I read in my head too... boring. K imma get a few books today

i can't vouch for speed reading, but per your description, it sounds pretty cool, if after all, this can be accomplished... i haven't managed, however.

imagine thinking - now that's something i do... but speed reading, i find i glaze and gloss and miss things i wouldn't ordinarily miss. maybe this is for advanced readers, or something? or maybe...? maybe it's just two different ways people read? i mean, not everyone is gonna read for the exact same reasons as another, so... that's probably it, i think.

this is my main pondering.
but then again, people will read differently, for different reasons.

i mean really, i'm just fucking jealous that other people can read apparently all the things i wanna read, but like in no time flat. like wtf broo? i wish i could fucking do that.

edit: ahhh i got it now! :smilingpuppy: if i get some speedy drugs i'm gonna be doing more fucking than reading hopefully. but i'm sure that'll wear old, eventually. and i'll get back to reading.

PS: that counter-joke either explains my severely distraught libido, or is a slight knock on Beanhead's, or both. you decide. :mypleasure: they both have merit. vital vital merit.

Never said it was impossible.

im just saying, most people do not keep track and when they reach 500 or so, they lose track and just toss out a number that sounds good...like 1,000

you don't have to be a dick about it just because I gave you a well-deserved shitty rating

I guess you read the books of Kafka translated in English, it might have had an impact on my appreciation of the book. I find that the translations play an impact in my appreciation of the books that i read. I read it in french so that might explain my feeling of "mental masturbation" when reading it, english might be more concise.

I'll give him a chance and read metamorphosis once i finish the books that i am reading atm.

I don't read as much as some people here it seem, but i tend to average at least a book every week or every other week.

In my opinion, books are an interesting subject of conversation that gets thrown to trash these days, i find it harder and harder to meet someone that is an avid reader, and thats a shame.

Its funny because like Bunny posted, reading is sexy

Im calling conspiracy ON david icke.

there is no way anyone can retain as much information as him and not have help. If you check out the book I suggested by him, youll notice its pretty obvious that its impossible for all that knowledge to have come from him and his findings.

Your knowledge doesnt come from yourself, it comes from thousands and thousands of years of cultural development.

Its sure that he read other authors to write his book, even if he created a paradigm shift with his theory, he still would have needed to know the theories beforehand.

Read a book by Thomas Kuhn, and be amazed by how many things that dude knew
