I think a lot of non-readers would be surprised how fast you can read a book once you get really into it.

ha.

I did not know that.

TMJ - just because you don't understand something doesn't mean it's not possible. you have to understand that i have been obsessed with words, language and reading for as long as I can remember.\

I used to hide books in my pillow case & in between the mattress and box spring when i was 9 so that i could stay up after bed time reading by the sliver of light that came into my room from the hallway night light.

the learning one can receive from fiction is of a higher grade then that of your usual non-fiction.

(not to say there is no high grade learning to be had in non-fiction but...)

not only does fiction make you think outside the box, but it also makes you have to think for yourself, which allows for more decisions, which allows for greater perspective and thus greater learning.

but not every non-fiction book is Godel Esher Bach.

Some what, if I've been reading for 20 mins or so the internal vocalization fades out and my reading speed picks up, otherwise not really - I have to "relax" with the book.

Sounds are actually represented by allophones

i find it very distracting to read in my head. i read aloud, because i don't lose part of any of the diction in what i'm reading. whatever works for you, is best... but i just think that if one is gonna read in their head, the internal dialogue is pretty important, but maybe it's just me... cause me, i really need to "relax" if i'm reading in my head, so i can hear what i am reading "in my head"; this way i don't read too fast, and skip sometimes important diction.

you might just be a shit ton better at it, than i am though; i have thought about the fact that at some point, if i'm gonna want to maintain this hobby, i might have to practise reading quietly, and to "relax".

so phonemes are ... allophones that have been ... set in a manner which enables them to be spoken? so allophones = the sounds / phonemes = the parts that sounds make into words?

i really need to get past wiki levels of understanding here.
