I averaged 2-3 a week throughout elementary and highschool, reading really dropped off once I started living in the real world. If I had to guess It'd be right around 1500-1750 mark. Make for one hell of a personal library thats for sure.

Reading thousands isn't unbelievable. My mom reads a book a day sometimes. But just for calculations, I'll say 3 a week atleast. She said she has read like this since she was 15, and read a lot before that. I'll even raise it to 20yo when she started. She is 45. 25*52*3= 3,900.

she said over 1000 just for her degree....

Golly, what a controversy I've caused.  Well, it doesn't really change reality whether or not people believe me.  Certainly, I'll admit that I worded my response poorly.  I probably shouldn't have said "thousands."  Probably just over a thousand, hundreds of which would be for my degree.

sorry, guess i just dislike reading "books" so much that i can't believe someone would waste that much of their life reading "books".....

it's just life. it's just a family, everyone's got one. it's just you. it's just for no reason.

sounds like someone is jealous of having more interests then you. which is a stupid thing to be jealous of.

I curse my book collection when I move, I have moved a lot over last 10 years. I have no idea how many I read. Right now I am reading Gravity's Rainbow and Illuminatus Trilogy (which would make a great movie). Favorite author is Philip K Dick.

so you have read over 1000 books from beginning to end just for your degree?...thats just sounds crazy to me....:justdontknow:

I've likely read over a thousand books from beginning to end outside of my degree, to be honest, but I'm trying to be conservative.  I love to read.  I worked in a bookstore.  I actually did the readings they assigned in my class and read the texts from front to back.  Sounds labor intensive but remember, you don't know how old I am and my degree took 10-years.

Yeah I don't see why this is so unbelievable to people.

I've read at least 10 novels each by herman hesse, kurt vonnegut, almost all shakespeare's plays, the harry potter series, game of thrones -- that right there is probably over 50 just off the top of my head & that's a minuscule portion of what I've read throughout my entire life.

If you count all the books I've had to read for school and all the plays I've read, I would easily put it around 1,000 or more, but it's hard to know exactly.

I won't lie it's pretty complex. I haven't read any Thomas Pynchon before.

I think a lot of non-readers would be surprised how fast you can read a book once you get really into it.
