The title of this thread reminds me of a time when in jr high, going into the school library and wondering how long it would take me to read it all. So I did the simple calculation (number of books in library ÷ time it takes me to read a book = total time it would take to read it all) It ended up being multiple fucking life times worth of time, I was fucking depressed - I'll never read all that was ever written....

...didn't stop me though, I enjoy reading. I've probably read 800-1k books probably, of course that includes required school reading through grade school and college, goosebumps (choose your own ending was the best) and animorphs etc. Though my reading has been all over the place since college, I'm so back logged with stuff I've gotten from Half Price Books!

Behold my lasted haul! (taken a few weeks ago) 4 dolla each!

Reading thousands isn't unbelievable. My mom reads a book a day sometimes. But just for calculations, I'll say 3 a week atleast. She said she has read like this since she was 15, and read a lot before that. I'll even raise it to 20yo when she started. She is 45. 25*52*3= 3,900.

maybe she was going for a degree in history... medicine... law... how do you know how many books one has to read in the years it takes to get her degree in these fields?

whenever people get into numbers that high about these kind of things, i realize they always exaggerate. just like how people say they have tripped 500 times or so.

someone who has claimed to read 1000 books, probably read realistically 500 or so. They hit 500 and just round to 1,000 because it sounds good.

and the people who have tripped 200 times will say 500 most of the time. because again, it sounds good.

obviously this isn't always the case, though

I've likely read over a thousand books from beginning to end outside of my degree, to be honest, but I'm trying to be conservative.  I love to read.  I worked in a bookstore.  I actually did the readings they assigned in my class and read the texts from front to back.  Sounds labor intensive but remember, you don't know how old I am and my degree took 10-years.

Golly, what a controversy I've caused.  Well, it doesn't really change reality whether or not people believe me.  Certainly, I'll admit that I worded my response poorly.  I probably shouldn't have said "thousands."  Probably just over a thousand, hundreds of which would be for my degree.
