if a thread gets locked, the person that locked it should be required to post why it's being locked...and if a thread gets deleted, then the person deleting the thread should be required to PM the original thread owner explaining why

mods can be horibly abusive with their powers (especially new ones) and this could be a great way to judge how good of a job a person is doing, and whether or not they are over-stepping their bounds

In an ideal world, this would happen everytime. Unfortunately we are a volunteer organization and many of us simply don't have the time to do this and enforce effectively. Mods should leave a short tag in a post if they edit it.. but if they Dump a post, there is a good reason for it. Mods cannot delete posts and the Dump keeps record of trashed threads for 10 or so days so if you believe your post was dumped unjustly, give the forum mod a holla and ask them to give you another chance.

I have been preaching that for a long time now. Most of the mods do try to leave a reason, but sometimes things get so busy around here that it is difficult.
