This one, Blow and Fear and loathing are sooooooo good.  Didn't like pirates of the Caribbean, but that had little to do with him.  Transcendence, not that good, neither was his acting, but maybe its just cause the movie lacked.

Loved the Rum Diaries!

I wasn't much of a fan for pirate of the Caribbeans either but then like a month ago I watched it on weed and now it's one of my favorite movies.

i dont think he is one of those actor actors but more of a character actor.. he is good in scissor hands and pirates and fear and loathing cause they are cool characters, albeit one dimensional he can exploit and portray them to great extents in different situations.. also liked him in sweeney todd.. otherwise i think it rlly depends on roles and really a lot of his recent ones have not been all that interesting

You should see a film called Deadman. Hilarious and very depp/odd

Rum diary was pretty good and enjoied lone ranger a bit too albeit more a kids film, trancendance  meh, just saw fear and loathing for the first time in years and chuckled a bit,
one of his best roles was edwards scissorhands and Donnie Brasco

He was very type cast though and perhaps his era has simply died off till someone writes better stuff suiited to him.

He needs to learn to speak like Jack Sparrow for All of his movies, only then will he be an acceptable actor.

I think the Depp, Burton, Elfmann circle jerks is a piece of shit. Burton remakes a shitty beloved classic, has Depp play Gothy McMystery all while elfmann tries to convince you it is a good movie with his music.

Depp is a pretty good actor, not Downey Jr. or Kevin Spacey level,
but pretty good and I think he shines in roles that have nothing to do with gothy McMystery bullshit.

I always thought he was an extremely over-rated.

Don't know if it's his attitude or just the roles he's given but everything about him feels so bland to me.

He did a good job in Fear and Loathing though.

@I can't believe you put Downey Jr in the same class as Kevin Spacey.... I think even Depp is a much better actor than Downey.

Sweeney todd was well played i think. He does well with the tim burton characters i couldn't picture anyone else as the mad hatter or Willy Wonka or jack sparrow.  Hes in a new movie coming out called into the woods being portrayed as the big bad wolf i think. That movie looks good to watch when your stoned like alice in wonderland.
