Good pasture find. Blue/Brown caps. need ID
    #2086397 - 11/09/03 11:25 AM (20 years, 5 months ago)

It's been raining pretty hard here in northern cali (stan county area). I'm in modesto and these are pics of mushrooms that i found in cow pastures. The bluish grey tinted ones as well as the 3 brown ones were found in manure and the yellow ones were found in a pasture in grassy areas (not on manure). Please post your opinions. Also i am workin on getting some spore prints prepared so pics of those will be posted tomorrow. Thanks in advance for all the feedback.

The brown ones look like Panaeolina foenesecii, the blue one looks very familiar but i'm not sure what it is, I certainly wouldn't go eating it though.

I just did a search on Panaeolina foenesecii. They look a little similar but it says the habitat is grassy areas. It is also known as the "lawn mowers mushroom". Mine however, were found on cow manure. I have some caps prepared for prints, but it will take around 12 hours before they are ready. Thanks for the feedback.

The first three look like Coprinus atramentarius.

oh no no....those first 3 Blueish ones are definately some kind of Pan. The bigger one has a potential of being a COPE!!! I would say it is definately but usually you are supposed to cut them at the bottom stem (so you dont get dirt in your gills and conserve the root system) and I ID Copes by the intesnse Bluing or darkening of the place where the stem was severed. I would get an ID from a pro like MJ before eating any of them but I'd bet my bottom dollar that those 3 are definately pans especially growing outta manure. The other 2 I'd say might be the pan antillarum (non-active). Again these are sub-tropical species but they bear all the similaries of pans I find in fields in florida all the time. Keep em in fridge or dry (dont eat--yet--) and get an ID from a PRO.

You are 100% wrong sorry.

Those are without a dout a very common Coprinus species that will grow from dung in this area.

He is in Northern California...Copelandia cyanescens will not grow there.

He has some Panaeolus foeniscii. The yellow ones look like Conocybe.

Ive found all these mushrooms around my house today too.

Well there you have it...angryshroom is a mod and oversedes any opinion of mine....thats why I said get an ID from a pro.  Im not familiar with Cali species but I picked a whole batch of Copes that looked exactly like that one big blue one last night in florida  pastures and as I tasted them this afternoon and had an awesome BLue Meanie trip as always.  Im not trying to provoke you from eating them....Angryshroom gave a definite ID.  SOrry...next time your in florida check out our fields man we got some Copes that will knock ya into space.

i'm saying coprinus as well.
who knows which one, there are many smaller ones. few like dung, so that's a good characteristic... i might agree with the conocybe also, but would have to say it matters so very little which one. no copelandias grow in the west, especially in november!!!!
rah rah rah.

hmm, as for the suspected paneolina foenisecci, id say it really looks more like an inactive psilocybe

I got pics of the spore prints. The bluish/grey one turned out fucked up, but the brown and yellow ones turned out ok. Are you guys sure the blue ones and the brown ones are hte same strain? They looked very different to me. Also, the blue/grey ones have a dark purplish tint to the spores.. which is hard to notice in the picture but its there. thanks for all the feedback.
