Go ahead, ask around what race people think that dude is.  He's most likely black, but he might be Hindi.

Since I first registered here, I have -- almost always, if not always -- found Burke Dennings to be both an honest as well as more-than-accurate individual in general.

Anyway -- I still find Burke to be honest, but, as far as 'more-than-accurate', I don't believe he is accurate in any way whatsoever by calling your 'avatar' an African-American (or, as you guys are putting it, a 'black' man).  Really.  I believe that I may know what Burke is getting at (that your avatar looks like a hybrid caucasian / african-american who -- consequently -- looks half-black and half-white).

I appreciate the compliments, you're too kind.  But I respectfully disagree with you.  Underfliptown is rockin' the black man avatar.  And there's nothing wrong with it at all.  Frankly, it's a bit offensive how up in arms he is when someone compliments him on his black man avatar.

Haha, let me take a moment and break down photography for you.  My avatar is a picture of a Caucasian male (Italian, specifically), but the picture was taken using something called "black & white photography".  That means that no color appears in the picture and it's all in grey-scale.  The person in the picture does not have grey skin, but rather appears grey due to the type of film used.

Yes, i understand that. Let me break down art for you. An artist (in this case a photographer) chooses a medium to portray an idea. Different things symbolize different ideas. In this case, you have an Italian male who happens to be grey. The artist has perhaps deliberately chosen the black and white medium to symbolize the goal of racial oneness. The photo was perhaps taken by a neo-nazi, but probably not.

It's from a Federico Fellini film, he didn't start filming in color until 1973, a decade after the movie from which the still was made.  He wasn't trying to represent a "grey man" and there's absolutely no racial message in 8 1/2.  You're really going out on a limb here, huh?  :lol: 

I know you were born in the mid 1990s and will find the following statement hard to believe, but LOADS of movies back in the 60s were filmed in black and white and it had nothing to do with an attempt to "portray an idea", but rather because filming in color was expensive and/or unnecessary.
