Hi, I feel I have enough knowledge and willingness to be a moderator of the Science and Technology forum. There are already 4 mods but one more will just make it better

I'm surprised you're not a mod of the secret TOaF forum.

I believe you would be. I don't know exactly how much you know about science and technology though. Do you post in there very often?

Thanks, well I post there when I should. I think I know alot about computers, but still alot more to know, so with helping other people and reading in the forum I can both be useful for the community and myself. Also I am interested in science

I'd just keep posting in there regularly, and maybe talk to the other mods of that forum. Then go from there. Sounds like you could be a helpful addition there if they decided they need another mod, or if someone steps down

You don't always have to "know" a lot of stuff about the forum your moderating, more or less just be able to recognize, interpret, follow and enforce the rules.

I. one can not measure the speed of gravity. the acceleration of gravity has a magnitude of 9.81 meters/(second squared)
II. kepler's laws of orbital motion: 1. planets follow elliptical orbits, with the sun at one focus of the ellipse.
2. as a planet moves in its orbit, it sweeps out an equal amount of area in an equal amount of time.
3. the period, T, of a planet increases as its mean distance from the sun, r, raised to the 3/2 power. T = (constant)(r to the power of 3/2).
III. what do you mean? an african or european swallow?

I. Sorry, kind of a trick question. Although it poorly (simplistically) worded, I was looking for was something along these lines regarding the speed of gravitational effect as currently theorized:Quote:
In the Einsteinian universe, instantaneity--that is, event X instantaneously causes effect Y at distance Z -- is impossible in a meaningful sense, since for reasons we needn't delve into it would involve communication at faster-than-light speeds. [Therefor], gravitational effects travel at exactly c, just like light.
This inspires two obvious questions: (a) How do we know gravity travels exactly at c? Answer: We don't, but it seems consistent with other things we know. To put it in technical terms, general relativity is only self-consistent if the speed of gravity is Lorentz invariant (that is, the same for all observers), and the only speed for which that works is c. (b) If gravity travels at the same speed as light, is it propagated by waves and particles, as light is? Answer: It seems likely. In fact, the gravitational particle has already been given a name: the graviton. But even though Einstein's theory of general relativity, which posited gravitational waves, was published in 1916, no unambiguous instance of gravitational waves or particles has ever been directly detected.?Indirect evidence for gravitational waves is very strong, however, such as the observations of the binary pulsar, which won the 1974 Nobel prize.
II. Correct!
III. Also Correct! It was another trick question.

Quntum entanglement doesn't bode well with the Einsteinian universe. However, recent experiments seem to indicate that gravity "travels" at the speed of light.
> the acceleration of gravity has a magnitude of 9.81 meters/(second squared)
Almost correct. On Earth, the above is true. On the moon, the above is not true.

Almost correct. The gravitational acceleration on earth, at sea level and at a latitude of 45 is 9.81 m/s^2(this is the international standard). The real gravitational acceleration varies between 9.78 m/s^2 and 9.83 m/s^2.

i was assuming papaver was on earth when he was asking the question. of course he could have been on the moon, where gravitiy is about 1/6 as strong as it is on earth or mars, where it is about 3/8 as strong as earth.
