my parakeet just died * 1

He'd been sick for a week, I tried to warm him up, take really good care of him. He seemed to get a lot better over the weekend, brightened up. Him and his female partner were inseparable, it was really cool to see - she obviously was looking out for him.

So I took him out to clean him up and he tried to fly out of my hands and fell 3+ feet to the tile, he's done this 3-4 times now. I'm just not used to it he was always able to fly so I didn't think to stop him. Well last time he did it and I put him back. I went upstairs to make food and came back down to the pantry but something told me I should check on him. I go in my room and he is sprawled out on the bottom of the cage, motionless, but breathing. I scoop up the poor little guy and he slowly breathes less and less, with more time in between each breath. He breathes his last, his pupils dilate, and he lets out a tiny chirp. I misted up immediately. Poor little guy. He was young as far as I know. Loved the sassy little dude, got a picture of him givin me a kiss when I first got him. RIP Azul. :heart:

Damn dude, sorry to hear that. A lot of people don't know what it's like to own parrot birds, but even the small ones are incredibly intelligent. Are you going to get another one to keep the other parakeet company, or no?

I had this happen as well, with cockatiels. The surviving one was too old to really pair up again.

They really are quite smart, and I love when they are happy they are just crazy and funny little characters, all sassy and goofy. I am probably going to go pick out another parakeet to keep the other one company yeah. Hopefully they get along as well as she did with Azul.

We also have a cockatiel who is 26 years old! And he is super cool and sing songy too - I can make food and talk to him a few rooms away it is really cool. I'd like a dog too but definitely couldn't take care of it workin 14+ hours a day :shrug:

I miss the little guy though, small parrots are indeed awesome. I'd like some lovebirds someday :thumbup:

Dude, when I was 15, I was in my backyard and a lovebird flew on my shoulder, sometime in October as it was starting to get cold (this was in Colorado). No way of telling who's it was, so we kept it. Such a smart bird. We had it potty trained very well, and it flew around our house freely. 2 years later he escaped though. Hope it found a new place to settle down, because he never came back.

Thanks man. I said a little prayer for him, it really was hard to watch, I kept asking him to stay when he was going. Loved the little guy, but I think he had a good life and enjoyed hanging out with his budgie wife haha

Definitely I could tell whenever I came back in my room she was like "where is he?" and looking at me very intently. Super sad to see

That's when it's really fun, when they can just fly around and hangout in the house. Always loved that :thumbup:

The other night at work I spent nearly 2 hours trying to get a bird out of the front foyer. He kept dodging in to tricky spots. I wouldn't have cared too much but he had whacked his head so many times he was leaving dark bloody streaks all over the ceiling and I didn't want him to die. I had to throw a garbage bag over him just to catch him. While I was holding on to him, I noticed I could see the little guy's brain. I felt really bad. He flew away, barely. I was just happy he survived. I love birds, but I'm not a fan of owning them. I've saved many over the years, and have gotten some killer photos in the process. Save a bird and they really appreciate it. I can always seem to get them to stick around.

birds are somehow smarter then suspected. my dad's African Grey was like nodding at me and shit when i was like "oh shit, can't treat this bird like a bird, gotta treat him like a human. what?!"

creepy. a bit. but awesome.
