Mexicana from fsre

Hi

I got a spore print from fsre.nl with the name "Mexicana" written on it. At first I thought this was normal shrooms and made BRF cakes with it. But now I might think this is a sclerotia type... Is my brf cakes useless? What should I do?

yup I'm guessing you got sclerotia, however it's impossible to say without pics. Are your cakes still inside their jars? IIRC, sclerotia can literally grow inside the mycelium INSIDE the jar until completely done, then be knocked out of the jar and cleaned/dried once removed.

If it is Mexicana then you're in for a treat. I've never seen them fruit on cakes though.

Upon full colonization you could dunk the cakes, put them back in the jars and then case them with a properly pasteurized casing layer.

Or you could crumble the cakes into a bulk substrate. They like equine poo.

If the print you got truly is Mexicana then you are in for a treat if you can get it to fruit.  Alot of people spend a lot of time looking for prints of that. If you can fruit it and take 20 prints or so you will have tradeable mycological gold!

yea if it's stones you will plainly see masses of fungi growing on the sides of the jar.

the myc will go some different colors then the common cube myc and form stones, either way your not screwed

Most cubes are labeled as plain mexican, where as the stone producers are labelled as mexicanA.

Are you sure it's pins and not tiny stones starting to form?

then it may have been a mexican cube mispelled with the extra A lol.  Usual protocol for fsre requests is to list 2 or 3 varieties you'd be interested in and they pick from those.  Did you list a stone producer when you sent in your request?  When did you get it, they appear to be out of mexicana on their inventory list but do have mexican cubes still listed.

I will add pictures when my battery is charged. I did not list stone producer when I ordered it, if I remember correctly I had only listed golden teacher and b++ as wanted. This was 1+ years ago. Just watch the thread as I will post pictures later :smile:

If you only listed cubes, odds are its the mexican cube, they wouldn't send an exotic species like that without it being requested.
