I want to go on a religious retreat! Are there any good ones

Ok, here's the deal.

I want to get in touch with my deeper side and learn about a different religion then I was brought up (Roman Catholic). I'm interested in both Native American beliefs and buddhist beliefs and want to go on a retreat.

I remember hearing of places you can go and work and help them grow vegetables and it's free to practice religion with them. Are there any such places? I want to get my life in line and have no money but am willing to work.

I read about one in New Mexico (i believe it was there) in which they give you peyote and leave you to your own function in the desert for 3 days, with supplies of course. I think it was through the Native American Church. Unfortunately I don't have a link, but you could probably google it.

Or you could go to an Ashram, here in my home province of BC,Canada, there is Yasodhara Ashram. You can pay for a program or theres a free program you can apply for... the youth Karma Yoga program. You do work for the Ashram which is why its free, and it sounds quite awesome. Of course you have to be celibate and take no drugs or alcohol while there, but thats cool.

There are probably a whole lot more ashrams all over the place with similar programs.

It's a long shot, but if you live in Alberta, there is a retreat called Clear Light Mind Retreat this December. I will be there. If you are near, and can make it, I'm positive it will be rewarding for you, whether you be Buddhist or otherwise.
