What kinda stereo system for my truck?

So I've got a nice 91 toyota pickup truck that I've had like forever and I been wanting to fix it up nice. First think I think will be a new stereo system. I don't know shit about that kinda shit. What should I get? I want something that is compatable with playing mp3s because that's how I have most of my music. I'm not looking for total top end or anything. Just some good sound with decent but not over the top bass. What kinda deck should I get? What kinda speakers? I need the help of people who know about this kinda shit so I don't get raped by a salesman when I go shopping for one.

Kenwood deck with 6x9 kicker rears and then what ever size door speakers you have with small mid speakers.
I think kicker sells a package speaker deal or some shit. Ill Google it for you.

Perhaps you don't know the reputation of these years of Toyotas. Many odometers flipped. I got plenty of means. Part of me things I should just get a new rig, but really it's still a great truck. Just needs a system, new upholstery, and a new paint job and it'll be tits.

I think it's better to fix up a vehicle if it's in good shape rather than just dumping it and getting something new. Fuck Walmart McSociety.

In a little toyota pickup all you will really need is a deck, a pair of components, an amp(s) and a sub(s). As for as what I recomend that depends on how much room you have.

PPi makes a nice 4 channel (ppi 900.4). It does 145 watts x 4 or 450 x2 so you could just run two channels to a set of components and bridge 2 for the sub. That'd probably be the most bang for your buck amp if you are on a budget.

Most salesmen aren't too bad honestly. You'll only get 'screwed' on labor I guess and it's not really too bad since it's a lot of work. Easier in a truck though to do it yourself. I just got all my shit put in my car last month and paid about $3000. Took a lot of "tinkering with" the EQ but I got it sounding really great.

I'd recommend a good head unit over anything personally. Mine was like $900 but has a badass GPS touch screen and great EQ settings. Kenwood.

What's your budget? Should I read the rest of the thread? :lol:

Even if you don't care about how loud it is an amp will help a lot with sound quality... especially if you are using a cheap head unit. You won't notice that much of a difference just replacing the head unit and speakers. If it's a regular cab I'd get a sundown sa-10 sub, ppi 900.4, a pair of nice components (like cdt) and your choice of head unit (I like pioneer). You should be able to do all of that for like 600ish

I had the same truck for 18 years. Bought it new, tore out the original deck, put in an Alpine deck with Rockford Fosgate amp and Kicker rear speakers. Sounded pretty great. Used to shake my rear view mirror like a MF'r. What a great truck!

I ain't tryin to drop a ton of money. I was thinking maybe up to like $300 or so. I honestly don't have the most discerning ear for sound quality, so top notch isn't the biggest priority. Also I don't need super loud. Anything is better than what I have now, which is nothing.

I have an 86 4runner that needs some tunes down the road.
