Re: I Bought a lock for my front door saved £90!!! [Re: Masked]

OK, in Canada bc its regulated. That is not all or most areas of the world. There are probably other areas with somewhat similar rules so one must be aware of the local situation before embarking on such a venture. That is a valid point.

I took a look on the local craigs list and saw a few ads. I doubt I could get $50 to do it, maybe $20 plus the cost of the lock. Might not be worth the effort. They are going to want a certain style and color, so I would have to go out and find it and perhaps they have changed their mind in the meantime. The op could make a killing if they are getting 100 in his area, equal to $150 or more.

“A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves largesse from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits from the public treasury with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy, always followed by a dictatorship.” (attributed to Alexis de Tocqueville political philosopher Circa 1835)

A locksmith is a tradesman.

So at my shop...the cost to go on site
and rekey 1 lock would be the minimum service call of 80 dollars(which includes 15 minutes on site...more than enough for a standard rekey), plus 2.50 a key...usually people want 3 keys...plus tax.  Which brings you around $100.  That is the cost to have a bonded, security licensed locksmith, with all the training and tools, to come on site.  Pretty fair.  And on the cheaper side as far as locksmiths and other tradesman go.

Now...if the customer took locks off and brought them in store...it was $9 per lock and 2.50 a key.
