The Amazing Pop Corn Colonization
    #2033399 -

Wow, I must say, pop corn rules.

Last friday morning 12 quart jars were innoculated with pop corn
this was then left to sit in the apartment for the weekend where the AC was turned off Internal temp was about 88F when I came home, signs looked very promising about 10% colonized. It was shaked twice a day, until today. This afternoon I noticed 90% colonization on 3 of the jars about 50-60% colonization on the rest, I am expecting full colonization of every jar by the end of the week.

Truely amazed.

Anyone know if there are any downsides to using pop corn? I am going to case with dung and may be straw in a little bit.

downside for my friend with popcorn is if he uses it to spawn it has less colonization points then WBS. Thats about all he found as a downside he loves popcorn's quick colonization times to

Did you innoculate with a spore syringe? How much spore solution would one want to use on popcorn quart jars?Wheat?

This picture was taken 10 minutes ago. 2 quarts 3/4 full of colonized popcorn were used.

I like the results.

What'd you case with fish? Very nice results, did you purposely not let it colonize fully?

I always case with 60/40 cococoir and verm. I don't put a lot of casing material over the substrate, just enough to fully cover the popcorn. I made the mistake with this one of letting it in the incubator for too much time. When I realized that 50% of the casing was colonized, I had to put another layer of casing over the whole thing.

Mycellium seems to love cococoir. Probably too much. By the time I got this flush, the entire surface was colonized and the middle of the casing has overlay. Next time, I will try another casing recipe.

My friend has never done WBS, but he has done popcorn and PF and says that popcorn was FRIGHTENINGLY potent in comparison. And he got about a dry ounce off his popcorn casing he says.

That would be hydroton! I enjoyed using this stuff in my tubs rather than perlite, back in the day...

I'm glad it worked out for you, but you shouldn't be shaking your jars so much. You damage the hell out of the mycelium like that. You should only shake once, if at all.
