Lets make that weakling apple cider grow some balls

I like to buy my cider in bulk when I can. It cant have preservatives. I go out and buy a few five gallon buckets with lids. Oh yea the bucket needs a presure valve of some sort.  You can buy them or make them.  I take a piece of polly tubing and put it in a hole in the lid.  I make sure its nice and sealed too so that no molds get in it.  I then take the other end of the tube and place it in a glass of water.  For a five gallon bucket I use five gallons of cider but I boil it down to make four gallons. I then pour it into the bucket. As the liquid is cooling I add two cups corn or cane sugar and 2 cups brown sugar.  Just like growing mushrooms every thing needs to be sterile so I fill my sink with a water bleach solution and sterilize every thing like buckets, lids, spoons, counter, and stove.  Now when the cider is warm not hot you can add your yeast.  A packet of yeast goes for 35 cents.  I use champagne yeast.  It is alcohol tolerant so it will break down the most sugars compared to other yeasts that will die after the alcohol content reaches a certain level.  Close it up place it in a warm place waite a couple weeks.  A couple days before you are ready to bottle it place the bucket on your counter.  I do this so all the sediments settle down.  Now get your bottles ready by sterilizing in bleach water.  I add a tablespoon of sugar to each bottle as a primer.  This makes it carbonated.  I then siphon of the cider into the bottles making sure not to get the shmuck of the bottom.  When the bottles are filled.  I place them in the cubard for a couple days.  Be careful because to much sugar will make them blow up.  Sit them out side for a while and enjoy.    :grin:

Im gonna try this. I like that "Hardcore" cider every once in a while. Any idea what the booze content is?

I am not positive but I think its around 17%.

hard cider is high in methanol. it'll give you the nastiest hangover of your life if you drink too much.

Methanol is bad for you. Small internal doses, continued inhalation of the vapor, or prolonged exposure of the skin to the liquid may cause blindness.

I never suffered from a hangover the day after drinking hard cider. And boy did I drink a lot. But if you drink to much it will give you a horrible case of the shits.
