When a small Los Angeles police department posted a rogues' gallery of its latest arrestees on Facebook, it probably didn't expect to attract thousands of visitors enamoured by the good looks of one of the convicted felons.

Since Stockton Police Department in California included Jeremy Meeks in its round-up of arrests for gun possession, the 30-year-old's mugshot has attracted 59,620 likes, has been shared almost 7,000 times and has been commented on by more than 17,000 people.

Many of the commentators are female and most of the comments are about Meeks' "model" good looks.

"He can kidnap me anyday... Hold me against my will lol," Jessica Gutierrez wrote.

"Why is he breaking the law when he should be making millions modeling! Wowzas," Tanya H. Thomas added.

Internet memes have even emerged, showing the felon's face - tattooes airbrushed out - as he could look as a Calvin Klein model:

However, not everyone was won over by Meeks and berated the women for giving him attention.

"$900,000 in bail and 6 felonies. You ladies are desperate," Amber Gomes wrote.

Meeks told local television station KXTV: "I appreciate the attention but I just want them to know that this is really not like me, I'm not some kingpin. They found a pistol in my trunk."

His mother has now started a fund, "Free Jeremy" in a bid to raise $25,000 to pay legal fees for her son, who she maintains is innocent and has been "stereotyped" because of old tattooes.

Katherine Angier, who posted images of Meeks with his young son, wrote: "Please help. My son was taken into custody on his way to work. He is a working man with a son. He is being stereotyped due to old tatoos [sic]."

She added: "He has a job and ... He was on his way to work. With no gang affiliations as per two of the charges. He has old tattoos..which causes him to be sterotyped. He's my son and he is so sweet. Please help him to get a fair trial or else he'll be railroaded."

Stockton Police said that it wanted to remind everyone that Meeks is a convicted felon who spent nine years in prison for grand theft.

And some of his admirers may also be disappointed to learn that Meeks is married.

"I just got visited by my wife and she said I blew up all over Facebook," he said.

nothing here has tried to kill me in my 27 years on this earth.
I think our gun laws are stupid. We just don't have the socially-embedded trait of total retardation that American seems to. Violence is a part of your culture. I know plenty of people who own illegal firearms and they never leave wherever they're kept/hidden let alone be carried. They're more there for "when the need arises" rather than "protection from getting mugged"

I dunno what my argument is, but the article is stupid, and it sounds like the cops are trying to use a crime he did time for to drag him down, especially if he is in fact rehabilitated.

The sad fact is that girls are actually attracted too scum like him & would "hold his guns" in a ride or die situation because dangerous is how these people are convinced too live. They must think he's cooler than a ferrarris ashtray right now.
My 14 year old cousin got arrested last month and his mom took a picture of him against the police car with an officer interrogating him and uploaded it too facebook so everybody could look at little Angel all grown up as he makes his trip too juvie.


Our Guns won't  stand a chance against their tanks , the only reason we are aloud guns is because the higher-ups hope we kill ourselfs & cause chaos with them.  the thing is he probually  got all of his guns illegally off the streets  while the mass shooters we fight gun control over purchased  theirs legally from the store.

he committed a new crime, possession of a firearm by a felon, just because
he's attractive and has a few pics of him doing things with a kid doesnt
make him rehabilitated, if that were the case then he would know he's not
allowed to have a gun in his possession now what the article is omitting
is what he was initially stopped for, maybe he was in the commission of a
crime, such as dealing drugs, maybe it was gang related activity, maybe it
was armed robbery

The question of guilt or innocence Is irrelevant to my questions. The article states that 2680.00 has been raised but but by whom The Police from ads on their facebook account and why does a police department have a facebook account? Or by the Mother who is trying to get her son out of jail?
