Sterile spray

I have been using a mixture of wather and a chloroxylenol containing sope to make a "sterilisation" spray. I spray it on everything after cleaning the kitchen before innoculating and on my hand s and on all equipment before using. I am wondering is it just a vaste of time and money i have on my totl of 12 cakes had one contam does anyone think the rate wold be the same not using chloroxylenol our should i keep on doing it (it is antimicrobial after all)

Othervise illl start using a spray that a lady frien that works as a pedikyrist told me abouth, aperentley it kills everything exept (SO IRONICALLY)mushroom spores.

does this stuff cost less than rubbing alcohol, lysol or hydrogen peroxide???

as for 96% alcohol yes the others i dont know i have never used them.

i just use a off brand lysol spray and a h2o2 spray

Wow, you can't spell 'get' or 'water' or 'sope', but have no problems with 'chloroxylenol' or 'antimicrobial'....  :grin:  .......just giving you some crap, don't get pissy, it was all in fun. Some people just can't spell right, who the fuck cares??

As for spraying casings, the preferred method seems to be distilled or spring water, mixed with HydrogenPeroxide (3% H2O2-for you scientific geeks) I have seen MANY different ratios for this. I haven't cased (just yet) but I would use 1 or 2 parts HP, per 10 parts water. 1/10, 1:10, however you wanna friggin type it.

As for keeping areas clean, that also, is operators discretion. As above, Lysol, Generic Lysol, Alcohol (you get 96%?!?!?!, I can only get 91%, but it seems to be sufficient.) Also, try the Oven Tek, it seems VERY HANDY, and VERY AFFORDABLE!! But I just it for innoculating.

For soap?? I would suggest staying away from, as I would think it would leave a residue that could cause problems.

I would think, if it doesnt kill mushey spores, then it doesn't kill other fungus types???
