I just got struck by lighting!

Well almost, I was walking back into the house, there was thunder in the distance, not too worried about it. Then out of nowhere there is a huge flash/thunderbolt right beside me or at least very near. Instantly, I feel an intense electrical type shock throughout my body from my feet to head. I fall to the ground, kind of like I was tazed, I was paralyzed for a few seconds. I called out to my friend, I've been hit by lightning, he saw the flash/boom as well and said he went numb on one side. It did strike something, you know how you can tell the difference when it hits something by the boom at the end. Wow just wow. What do you guys think happened here, I mean did it travel through the ground from where it touched down? Has it happened to anyone else? Why me but still alive and thankful for that? :confused:

Wow, sounds like a crazy close encounter! I've always been terrified of being struck by lightning, but luckily I've been safe so far (touch wood). Be thankful that you survived it all without a hitch! And you've got quite an awesome story to tell people haha. What was the whole experience like?? I imagine the huge flash would have literally scared my pants off!

It's suppose to be so rare to be struck by lightning but some people may be more prone to getting struck. For example, someone claims to have been struck 7 times. They call him the "Spark Ranger" :laugh2:. Anyway aside from staying alive and no injuries, I wouldn't mind at least the ability to fly as my superpower. :dancer:

The only reason I didn't piss all over myself is because I had just emptied my bladder prior to the strike. It all happened so fast, so really as soon as it hit my mind was gone and my nerves throughout my entire body fired off all at once. Well at least it started in my feet and shot to my head within a fraction of a second. It was a terrifying experience that I wouldn't wish upon anyone. It makes you look at life in a whole new light. I never feared lightning before now it will forever haunt my daily life and likely my dreams as well. Be careful, stay indoors when you hear thunder, even if it looks safe it can strike out of nowhere like it did for me.

I don't know how this happened to me of all the people and how rare it is has me worried that I'm cursed somehow. The fact that I'm more likely to be struck again is even more of a reason to fear "The All Mighty Mother Nature". I know I won't be outside when I even hear the slightest thunder.

I started thinking, I was very close to the tallest object, it was a power pole and it is grounded so possible the lightning hit the pole and sent the bolt through the ground to where I was walking. Sounds possible, more so than other explanation. :confused:

My brother's an electrician by trade and he told me if a power line is ever cut never to get within like 15-30 feet of it.  Apparently something with that much juice electrifies the ground in a radius whenever it grounds.

My friends grandmother has gotten hit by lightning twice.
She survived the second strike too :shrug:

Well I feel fine and this was yesterday's crazy hail / lightning storm. It was such strange experience don't know if I will ever be the same when it storms. I hear Thunder as I type very loud strike, right this second. I have no idea what is after me and why Mother Nature is targeting me. Kinda scared hope it passes quickly. :sad:
