to be serious tho, you were the "grounding wire" in this scenario. so you basically got a fraction of the actual electricity.

the "paralysis" was probably from involuntary muscle contractions caused by electrical disturbance of normal nerve transmitting.


i mean if you're really that concerned, get a mri scan of your brain to see if you had an electrical educed seizure.

but if you currently have full control of your body, and have no noticable deteration in facial structure or brain function, just count it as a werid trip and move on

Yeah it was a trip alright, a very bad trip. It was over so quickly but the shaking and panic remained a while after. Yeah if anything comes of it I will definitely see a doctor but as of now I feel like I normally would.

That counting the seconds to determine how far it is away, I am well aware of this but it is not full proof especially when it seems Mother Nature just had it out for me. lol Glad to be here still chatting with everyone. :smile:

Lightning can certainly travel through the ground, I have heard of people being electrocuted when lightning struck the ground near their house and it traveled through the wiring (grounding) and shot out and the just happened to be at the wrong place at the wrong time. And lightning is not always the same, there are strong bolts and there are weak bolts and there are super strong bolts. You never know which bolt could be a killer and which cold be just a jolt.

Due to the high impedance of the ground, the current "chooses" a better conductor, often a person's legs, passing through the body. The near instantaneous rate of discharge causes a potential (difference) over distance, which may amount to several thousand volts per linear foot. This phenomenon is responsible for more injuries and deaths than the above three combined. Reports of "Tens of cows killed by a lightning strike..." are classic examples.

Lucky to have survived, if you are feeling fine there is likely no lasting damage. But damn that's not good for a persons nervous system.

Interesting.  I've heard some stories of lightning striking a house or whatever and the bolt actually traveled through the house, through the electrical wiring to the light fixtures; out of the light fixture and the bolt reaching the floor (visibly).  I wish I could see something like that lol

As all the nerves in my body were stimulated with an instant buzzzz/shocking feeling I did hear the boom and then went down almost instantly. I suppose the only reason there was a fraction of a second delay was because it had to travel through the ground in order to shock me from the power pole that was struck. I have many theories on what really happened but this being the most likely scenario. Pole got struck, grounded the lightning bolt and sent it through the ground.

There really was no pain since I did not feel the heat from the actual bolt. Just sort of stick your finger in a light socket jolt and then fall to the ground. The energy went from my feet to my head instantly. Yet again 3 days straight another lightning/hail storm may be headed my way and I wanted to go fishing. Screw that I'm never going out in a storm again.

The time it would take to travel that distance would be too short to be noticed by a human being. Electricity tends to move at the speed of light.

Yup, could very well have happened, or it was just induction. Either way, if you stand close to a place where lighting strikes, chances are you're going to feel it.
