Maybe the peak of the actives mushroom season influences decision to join.  Of the 6 active species, with a curtailed season (so excluding Psilocybe cubensis), mentioned at this link http://www.shroomery.org/8773/Magic-Mushroom-Field-Guide, 5 species have seasons with October "near" the peak dates.

Psilocybe baeocystis: September-November
Psilocybe cyanescens: September-November
Psilocybe pelliculosa: September-November
Psilocybe semilanceata: Late August-November
Psilocybe stuntzii: September-December

The only anomaly on that list is Psilocybe caerulipes: August-October

The first month on the graph is October as well, October of '98. :strokebeard:

Each fall there are quite a few new members posting pics of various mushrooms in the hunting and identification forum, so I agree with the majority that October is peak season for mushrooms of all species and this is why we get the spike in new members.

Well the stars align in October and Mayan calander says

"Let there be light, when the stars align, to sign up on the Shroomery.org website today! You will be judged if you don't"

Thus spoketh the truth.

Non-ban October probably has more to do with it than anything.
