Cubes, Antillarum, and Copes... maybe

Went hunting this afternoon and had a little success, more than i was expecting.

Total take for the day

Odd shaped mushroom


I've never been able to figure out the difference between Copes and antillarum short of bioassay. Notice the blueing on these mushrooms, but not intense enough to determine anything. What do you guys think? I wish I knew the secret to ID'ing these.

P.S. I dont just go around eating mushrooms without Identifying them first, but with these two species there's really no way I have found to differentiate short of this.

Me and you have the same problem treyute...I dont know how mushroom John can make the conlcusion you have no Copes from looking at them but if anybody would know, it would be him...I have eaten shrooms that look Identical to those and tripped hard off em...makin them Copes. So I dont know

By the way....I was just looking at that pick at the bottom and unless that darkening black color is from the durt you pulled them out of, then I would have to conclude that Those were Copes. The only thing that people tell me that copes definately do is blue (or blacken) where they are cut down at the stem. MJ, can you please tell us how you are positive these are not copes from the pics?

Those bottom images are Panaeolus antillarum. Not Copelandia cyanescens. There physiology is how I can tell.
