June 2, 2005: Samui Cubes and Copes at last
    #4247029 - 06/02/05 07:04 AM (11 years, 6 months ago)

Well this morning i awoke at 2 am in the dark due to a giant fucking water bug cockroach (Palmetto) crawling across my chest. scared the shit out of me. I fall asleep every night at five pm and awake at 2 am with nothing but darkness so i go out and swim in the ocean and then wash off in the pool.

I had a hard time walking all over for two days and now shroomies at last.

so I read this "Week at Samui" magazine. Mentioned the location of a new buffalo arena.

Anyway, left the house at 7 and on my motorcycle drove to the north end of Hat Lamai where there are wua and no bufallo. Many coconut pickers working. Here is a wua where i was picking. picked about thirty or so small medium copes.

I then walked for two and a half hours to collect the following.

And here are the morning shrooms I picked between 6:30 am till 8 am.

Then I returned to my resort to make prints and then went out to find this new buffalo arena since the other two I normally go to are bone dry. One closed forever.

Some cattle tenders for the buffalo fights came over and gave me this small collection of het kee kwai:

Well there were Copes all over, Coprinus, many panaeoluus sphinctrinus species, many Morgan's Lepiota (Green Gills), and Concocybes and several unidentifiable shrooms. Also found a few Psathyrellas. covered less than one tenth of the arenas.

Here is my first find of a cube for the seassson, with scissors to show size:

Then a Thai kid came over and gave me another cube.

And finaly over 100 specimesn of healthy copelandia cyanescens. i did notice sevveral copes which are probably another species inthe genera. Very hard to distinguish but there where differences in stem colors and in the gills of the caps.

here is the collection of about half an hours work. Will go back tomorrow or the next day if i can get my sleep schedule back to normal.\\

mj

And have a shroomy day

Yeah those are awesome! What do you plan to do with them once its time to come back to the states? I would be a little scared to bring them through U.S. customs.

Mastacheefa,

The shrooms I collect are all deposited at the herbarium at the University in bangkok where I am currently writing several papers ont he psychoactive mushrooms of Southeast Asia.

I only bring sporeprints to Ame. not the Shrooms.

Also, Any cattle tender or rice paddie farmer who sees me inthe field or coconut workers in the coconut groves where cattle and buffalo roam freely often come over to see what I am doing. Some warm me of danger (antaray) and others point out spots to look. sometimes int he larger rice paddies A Chao ASamui cattle tender will have me follow him 2 or more kilometers and show me patches of panaeolus antillarus. I try to avoid walking with some of them long distances because I know nothing is there.

Several farmers have known me for twenty years and are my friends. most speak no english at all and we still get along fine.

Later I will post a tobacoo production pictorial inthe ethnobotanical gardens forum.

First check my June 3rd hot day and end of picking till we have another day long monsoon.
\

Last year was dry for 17 days.

mj
