Sick of Dead songs?

Deadheads hear the same songs THOUSANDS of times without getting sick of them. How do you guys do it??
I myself am a Beatlehead, and albums such as "Magical Mystery Tour" and "The White Album" are like religious hymns to me in a way. But I listen to those albums maybe once a year now because i've played them so much in the past.
Deadheads don't seem to get sick of those songs. They own many different bootlegs, many studio albums and go to many shows, but still don't seem to get sick of the songs.
Don't get me wrong. I think it's cool, but how do you guys pull that off?

I dont really get sick of their songs, certain ones i sometimes listen to way too much so they get old. Dead is the shit though, peace.

I'd say that as you hear more of the Dead, you like them more and more. Also, there are so many versions of each song that it's not like you're listening to the same thing over and over.
Also, it's Jerry

It's because they play any given song differently each time. I think the Beatles is great but I get tired of them because how many versions of Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds I've heard? Yep, one. It's hard to get tired of the Dead because of the imporovisational nature of their music, not to mention the fact that the lyrics are so good and Jerry's guitar sounds amazing in my opinion. With thousands and thousands of shows, there is a lot of material to choose from.

everyone's failed to mention the fact that the dead had a hell of a lot of songs they played. I think all in all they played more than a thousand songs....it's not like listening to just one album over and over again.

never!! there are so many versions of the same song, and the lyrics strike you in a personal way every once in a while depending on your own mood.....hearing the dead now playing he's gone, it sounds so friggin sad, like they're all missing jerry(as we all do) ((jerry)) but hearing jerry actually sing the same song, (was listening to knickerboker earlier), brings in a completly new meaning/feeling/vibe ?
plus,,once you've over played a show, put it on the back burner for a while (uaually lose it for a month or 2) and then find it and hear it again!! ooooooohhhh... ....plus getting the feeling about what is next to come by the subliminal phrasing and hearing a darkstar start to come out of space....mmmmmmm...and boobby screams!!!yeeeaaaaaaoooowww!!

I sometimes get tired of certain years... I'll listen to say, a bunch of 77 especially may 77 cause thats what a few of my friends really dig the most. So I'll switch to a dark and creepy 83 or 84, then myba some pigpen days, dial it up to some early 70's Donna wailing, maybe even throw in some other ones or Phil and Phriends. But really, if I feel tired of the Dead, I'll throw in some Particle or STS9.

Its not easy to answer that question because it requires an explanation which can only be understood by another deadhead. Actually I have become tired of two songs that the so called Rock radio stations play as the only example of Dead music. But the best explanation I can give is that the band never plays a song the same way twice. They re-invent songs night after night and year after year and the jams always go to new and interesting places!
Just like every trip is different, every song is different!

the problem is you have to wade through all the crappy versions and weak jams to get to good ones.

Definitely, the music is a trip.
> hearing the dead now playing he's gone, it sounds so friggin sad
I had the same experience when they played He's Gone @ Shoreline last month - it was as if they were almost crying. Then I came home and listened to my Europe '72 recording of the track and it sounds totally different. But as people have said, that's how it is with the Dead - they just mix it up with style

> Deadheads hear the same songs THOUSANDS of times without getting sick of them.
I can't claim to be a deadhead... more a wanna-be-dead-head, but what I have noticed is that the "same song" is very different depending upon the venue that was played. There is a lot of variety among the different versions of the same song.
If only I had discovered the dead back in the day...
