All About Insufflation (Snorting)

Insufflation or snorting, is one of the most common ROA (Route of Administration) for water soluble recreational drugs such as cocaine, opioids, amphetamines etc.

Although most people use this method for powders, most dont know much about the science behind it. Being a daily opioid user that uses this ROA, I often wonder how to obtain the greatest efficiency with this method.

An explanation of how insufflation actually works:

You mucus stops "most" of it going into your lungs and therefore traps in against the mucus producing cells allowing it time to "soak through". The blood in the nasal membrane is very close to the surface - this is why absorbtion is easy - however it is also easy to cause damage. "If you have ever had a nosebleed you will know how delicate these are and how close to the surface blood is." (Here) What actually happens is the micro-granuals of the powder scrape against the delicate lining - tearing it. The powder also drys out the mucus glands, this means that prolonged use can prevent the drug working as effectively. If you can't produce mucus then the powder cannot enter your bloodsteam via. aqeuous solution.

I always blow my nose before hand to clear it out and insert the straw or whatever im using as far up my nasal cavity as i can.
Not only is this harm reduction from snorting but also gets you higher.
Another thing i do is powder my substance as fine and flour like as i can not only does it increase the absorption but once again... harm reduction. Snorting safely is the same as snorting efficiently. :rail:  :snort:  :rail2:

A good tip.
Since we're talking water soluble substances here, do something called "monkey water" (or at least when talking about heroin).
Take the substance of choice and a spoon or small bowl, and mix with water until substance is fully dissolved, then take an oral syringe or straw, and squirt or snort the fluid of droogz into your nasal membranes slowly.
It's a much more effective way.

I love snorting shit , even opies, I have spider veins and don't want to shoot up so I have always snorted. Crushing it several times, chopping lines with knives, the instant rush, returning high due to drip, the ritual behind it. I am very aware of bioavailability and all that jazz but for me nothing beats racking a line of dope,coke,k or mdma .

Like mentioned in the article if you have nothing blocking the mucous membrane and have exposed capillaries and such, shit can hit you real fast.

Plus things like diluadid hit me hard as shit when I rack it,Idk if zi would even like anything stronger.

THANK YOU! i often wondered how much stuff was going into my lungs when i snorted.

So do we know if its better to snort shallowly, or do you want that shit deep up there?

i usually snort so that it gets kind of stuck midway, then i let it sit in there.

Next to just snorting powder, I prepare a water solution usually if im home. Ive tried 3 different ways with this method. The first time I tried snorting a water solution, I dumped a very small bump of h on my desk and dissolved it in a small drop of water. I tried snorting the drop with a short straw... This is the least efficient way of doing this, because water is heavier and much more stickier than the powder by itself which causes it to disperse and stick to the inside of the straw. I then got out an old oral syringe I had, and cleaned it out. I had a piece of cotton big enough to not get sucked into the syringe and I mixed some water and h on a spoon and sucked it up through the cotton. It ends up being too much water and just drips down my throat. I then bought a pack of insulin syringes and then tried a whole new approach.

This method I use to administer a diamorphine water solution, is also the same procedure for preparing a regular shot except you use less water. As oral syringes do not work as well, I recommend buying a pack of insulin syringes for about 3 dollars at a pharmacy counter. So youll need an insulin syringe, a tiny balled up piece of cotton, and a spoon. Put however much powdered dope into the middle of your spoon. With your insulin syringe, draw up 5 units of water and gently spray into your h. Pull the plunger out of the needle to use it to stir the solution until its a murky brown. (color varies by substance) Drop your small ball of cotton into the solution, and put your plunger back into your syringe and align your plunger at the 10-15 unit line. Look closely at the actual needle of your syringe and locate where the hole is at on the side, make sure this hole is facing downward, and gently press the needle into the cotton and slowly draw up the solution. Its only about 5 units of water, so its not so much that it will run your throat.. but just enough to moisten the sides of your nasal cavity. So hold your finger on the side of the needle and use your finger to feel for your nostril, only stick it in far enough so that the solution has a straight shot. Finally youre going to push the plunger as rapidly as you can without poking the inside of your nose, while breathing in through the nose steadily. Breath to hard and it will completely bypass your membranes and leave a NASTY drip in your throat.

What I found to help, is to lay down and have your nostrils pointing upward so the solution can run straight into your membranes.. breathing even softer of course.

Some questions I have that I am still unsure of:
1. The actual efficiency of insufflated dry powder Vs. water solution. 
2. Can someone vividly explain the membrane damage resulting from daily use? Not chronically septum torn damage.. but minor noticeable damage.
3. What occurs when you snort a regular dose of powder and it hits damaged membrane walls? Is it absorbed faster because its exposed, slower because its scabbed, or is it just the same?

And I would like to hear a factual answer for this. From my current understanding, your goal is to have it sit in your cavities so it can all absorb through your nasal membranes without having a unnessesary drip into your throat.

I must admit their is something quite special about sniffing something, the only two substances I really enjoy snorting are opiates and cocaine tho.

I used to snort a lot of things. Pretty uncomfortable honestly. All about that needle baby. All though I haven't used one for a year or really done any drugs beside occasionally smoking weed once or twice a month.

I like to put whatever I'm snorting into a straw, crush it up by running a lighter up and down the staw(while holding the straw closed at both ends), then dump it into my nose.

It's quick, it's easy, there's no clean up, you don't waste any of it, and IMO it hits you better.

Hmm never considered doing that. I always just used a random denomination of paper money and a lighter. Crushed, lined, then snorted. If I didn't have a straw I'd just roll up the bill I used to keep it from going all over the place when crushed.
