Jesse Ventura's America
    #1979649 - 10/04/03 08:44 PM (13 years, 2 months ago)

I'm so happy tonight. I didn't even know it was going to be on, but at 7:00 I happened to be flipping past MSNBC and saw the premere of  Jesse Ventura's America !! Finally, my hero, Jesse Ventura  has his own talk show on MSNBC. It's only one lousey night per week(Saturdays 7pm), but it's  something.

It was SO refreshing to hear Ventura's opinions on the issues he discussed. I find myself agreeing with every single thing he said as I can remember. Dressed in a suit with a Jimi Hendrix shirt, he talked about how he thinks election recalls should only take place when the politician doesn't fulfill his pre-election promises, not just because someone doesn't like that politician. He talked about how he was ashamed of his generation. He said "We were the hippies. We were the ones who broke the rules. Now we want to pretend the 60's never happened."

He had Gray Davis and Ariana Huffington as guests. His audience was filled with intelligent young people. I loved the show and I hope I don't slack on catching it each and every week. Anyone else see it?

One thing Jesse said the other night that I really liked was he talked about how there is another, more traditionally Republican candidate running the the California election, but that the Republicans are all backing Arnold because he can win.

Another example of the fact that Republicans (and Democrats) care much less about the issues than they do winning and power.

It is insane to suggest that either party does that more than the other. Listen to the debate over the Democratic nomination and you'll hear the exact same argument.

It's a valid point of debate in both cases.

Oh Ventura made it very clear that he knows Democrats are out for the money and power just as much as the Republicans.

He was just making this point about the Republicans because Arnold happens to be with them.

There is something to the argument against running an ideologically pure candidate that is not likely to win. It's an unfortunate tradeoff that always comes into play.

Perhaps you'd care to explain then how the party NOT in power can make changes? Noticeable change?

there is the whole notion of principle.

mcclintock, principally, is more of a republican
in the traditional sense, than arnold.

if it was politics they were worried about, the
republicans could have proven their concern
for the state's wellbeing by backing a man that
was less of a circus act and more of a candidate.

I think he could have taken the state if the
party had really gotten behind him.

but I guess arnold was the sure thing...

that's too bad, too, I was really counting on getting
a reimbursement from those enron rats.

That's just an excuse. The two big parties have shown that they only care about money and power. They'd all do complete 180s if they thought they would make out like bandits and get away with it.

So then the short answer appears to be.... they can't.

No that isn't the short answer. Read afoaf's post. He can articulate these things better than I can.
