Light Sources

My foaf has just built a new setup. Sorry, His digital cammera was stolen so I don't have pics as of yet. Here it is. A bunch of black and orange (halloween style = $4.00 a piece!) with pearlite for humidity. Went and bought a bunch of everready touchlights (run on batteries and cost 3.99 a piece). The lights are mounted with velcro to the inside top of the lids. Each light lasts about 12 hours and runs on 4 AA batteries. It is nice as long as you have rechargables.... no electric wires needed at all. The bins don't even look suspicious.... Labels were applied to the front reading "Spring Clothes" and "Stuffed Animals" to make the setup even more camoflauged.. heheh I thought it was pretty neat. The question I have is... How long is it neccessary for the lights to be on to initiate pinning? I know 12 hours is what the standard answer is... But i was wondering if it was actually neccessary for that long... how about 6 hours on 6 ofF? Anyone know from experience?

I always recommend a 12/12 light schedule up until pinnage. you can decrease it after that, but I still prefer a 12/12 all around.

HAve had mixed results. With cakes light never seemed to matter much. Jsut make sure they get a little ambient light a day. TMC says something about blue spectrum light being beneficial but I'm not sure exactly where. I wouldn't worry too much about the lights. Had tubberwares that had virtually no light for days on end and actually yielded some of the largest fruits. NOt saying less light is better just not sure if more light is. 12/12is probably about right but I wouldn't freak if you can't do that everyday.

Everything written above this line is completely false. I am terribly bored and write here to pass time. I do not participate or support any illegal activity.

Those lights might malfunction because the humidity in the terrarium is close to 100%. You'll get condensation on the lights and probably inside where the batteries are.

I use 12/12 with a closet light that's not really that bright and I get great results with it.

Also, it's kinda hard to fan the inside of your terrarium several times a day if you have lights attached to the lid.

Tap lights will not malfunction I have placed them in the bathtub before and they still stayed on even 100% submerged... High RH will hot bother them... but why the hell spend all that money on batteries when you can spend 11$ and get a light & fixture at wall-mart... WIDE SPECTRUM! the light is like 5.65 and the fixture is like 5.55 its what I use. 18" 15-watt

The light says: Wide Spectrum florescent for Plant & Aquarium
Contains a combination of phosphors which produce light rich in red & blue

No electric socket in my friends closet... and can't find a good way to disguise it... don't wanna have to worry about people (parents visiting) seeing it...  Batteries = no wires... and they are rechargeable...

All creatures tremble when faced with violence. All creatures fear death, all love life. If we can only see ourselves in others, then how could we possibly hurt another creature?
