real audio is easy enough...I could dig it, we could all post links to RA sites, and maybe make a pull down menu to let you pick your style you want... might make for a slower visit to The Shroomery, but once were on our own server, it shouldnt be a big deal....

I don't want to step on your toes or anything, but real audio sucks. Maybe you should look into shoutcast(http://www.shoutcast.com). The only this is, I don't know if it's as easy to setup as realaudio.

Heya Shaft. The RealAudio form is very slick...if people want, I'd be happy to slap your code up between the "Back" and "Forward" buttons. I gotta agree with kultgyro, tho, as to the poor quality of RealAudio...I know I wouldn't listen to music at 16 kbps. A lot of visitors to the Shroomery get access via their school's high speed lines, though, so perhaps we could hunt for some higher bitrate songs...these would be useless to people who connect via modem, but I think it'd be better to have high quality songs that a few people can listen to than low quality songs that nobody wants to listen to.Or, maybe it would be a better idea to find songs encoded in G2 format...G2 smartstream lets RealPlayer adjust the bitrate for any connection, so the same song would play, at different bitrates, over anything from a 14.4 modem to a T3. ------------------ Ythan Founder of the Shroomery e-mail: ythan@hempseed.com icq #: 19412886

wow! great idea!why choose just one format though? i love shoutcast too, but why not just have links to both and let the people decide? click on a link and it either loads RA or Winamp...

streaming Winamp is a possiblility... I agree that RA sux quality wise, but I was looking for quick and easy at the time... Im not sure what would be best, but all these suggestions sound good... I like the G2 in multiple sampling rates, it would be just as easy to setup I assume, just difficult to find the music... Any suggestions would be appreciated, and if anyone would really like to make this a project, speak up... especially if you understand streaming audio... Ill look into that ShoutCast thing also...

How about having a midi or wav or two automatically play as soon as the page comes up? Or have a section containing various midi's or wavs? These are so much easier for everyone to use. I would suggest The Beatles(anything from Magical Mystery Tour, Sgt. Peppers', or the White Album), Dylan, anything by Pink Floyd, Janis, Hendrix,Scott MacKenzie's "San Francisco"....
