Hiya FH. The Trip Reports forum is down for a good reason (several good reasons actually),  and unless a bunch of people really want it back, there are no plans for re-enabling it.

First, it was getting very little traffic. Very little. Like, one post every five or six days. It seems silly to keep a Trip Reports forum around when nobody wants to talk about trip reports.

Second, and more importantly - the automatic trip reports posting was causing HUGE problems. Permit me to elaborate.

As you probably know, this bulletin board script wasn't written "in house" by me or anyone else invloved with the Shroomery. It's a commercial product which Aphex was kind enough to shell out the $$$ for. New versions of the BB, which fix bugs and add functionality, come out quite frequently, sometimes up to several times a week. They're quite easy to install, and it's no problem keeping this board up to date.

When you start to hack the code (to allow the trip reports submission script to automatically generate posts, for instance) it craps everything up. Upgrading the BB to a new version isn't so simple anymore. The code needs to be re-modified each time a new version comes out, and since there are some significant changes in the BB source between versions, it's not a simple matter of cutting and pasting. Essentially, I have to re-code the automatic submission each time a new version comes out. It takes hours, and it's a huge bitch.

So when faced with the prospect of updating the BB as often as new versions come out, and ditching a forum which was hardly used, or keeping the forum but not updating the BB, I decided on the former. If a lot of people feel strongly that this was the wrong decision, please let me know and I'll re-enable the forum (it's still intact, with all the posts...it's just not available for viewing). Understand, though, that you'll be missing out on any future enhancements of the Ultimate Bulletin Board script.

maybe we shud make it so we have to email te webmasters our reports... making it so u need a little more motivation to actually send on in in stead of pressing the SUBMIT button.

Naw, dude. That's a pain in the ass. I like coming here and finding nice shiny new trip reports. Granted most of them suck ass, but still. Maybe there could be a trip report forum, but one that doesn't automatically recieve posts from the trip reporter. That way, if someone had something to say about a report, they would have somewhere to say it. Like the new one about seizures: I'd be interested in hearing what people think about that.

personally i am not a big fan of the trip reports...i read one every once in a while but never got that intrested in them...i think we have PLENTY enough examples of what kind of trip mushrooms will make you have...the only time i really remember reading the trip reports was when i was growing and had never tripped on shrooms...after i tripped it just wasnt so intresting....i thikn we should just close off submiting reports for good and keep the ones we have....(get rid of the 3 sentance reports)...besides ...its not like the shroomery is the only place that has trip reports on mushrooms

Maybe the trip report section should be redone. Just an idea but what about having a page with an example trip for each level both good and bad. People could still send in new reports but only the best one for each level would be used. The more I think about it, the more complicated it seems... Anyways, I do like reading the quality trip reports out there cause they provide insight into what other people are experiencing when they trip. I also like to share my exceptional experiences with others. Any suggestions on how this could be done efficiently and easily?
