Resume Builder

Anybody know any good sites to build a resume or download a template.

I was using one that said it was free and spent an hour to find out you have to pay for it.:crankey: And scambook reports it as very shady company.

microsoft word has templates if you've got that on your computer.

I've always just looked around at examples of good resumes and built mine from scratch.

I have googled it. And come up with a list of BS scam sites. Hence why I'm asking if anyone knows of a good one.

Think next time about why I would waste my time posting the question here if google gave me good results.

And I have one, but it doesnt open properly in openoffice. And I dont have word.

I don't understand what you're asking.  The Google results came up with tons of different looks and examples that you can use to create your resume.  Open Microsoft Word, looks over examples, create your resume, and you're done.

OP doesn't have MS Word - I would definitely suggest purchasing(or acquiring it through other means)  basic MS products(excel, powerpoint, word, etc.) I paid 450 dollars for a pre-owned refurbished 2011 macbook that has Microsoft products - it's my second mac from a seller on ebay that refurbishes them and I couldn't be happier with it...but I'm digressing.


Look for a free online alternative to MS word and build your own template, it's pretty easy. Just do a little research in terms of what constitutes a "good resume" these days(seems to change a lot to me when I read about it) and get 'er done.

You don't even want a "template".  Everyone's resumes vary so much there is no "template" to make a resume.  OpenOffice / Google Docs / MS Word and make a resume.

Yeah, he said he's using OpenOffice. It's what I use.

He is either too lazy or too stupid to format a text document by himself, he just wants to fill in blanks.

OP, there are probably tons of templates made specifically for OpenOffice.

Yeah, all resumes are different.  Since its your first one, it probably doesn't matter much, but think about it from the perspective of the person doing the hiring:  What do they want to see from a candidate?

As you progress in your career OP, the best thing to do is ask for resumes/CVs from 10 different people in the same field as you, preferably people further along in their career.  Then construct a resume from those.

Yup! Also depends on your field.
I love perusing resumes of web and graphic designers, they're always so awesome. I once made a "creative" resume when I worked in lighting, and it definitely stood out and got me some notice but when I sent it out for positions that were more demanding tech wise it wasn't recieved as well.

I remember making resumes with a nice cream or ivory colour bond 24lb paper that
was heavier and nicer than normal white bland paper and it made the text stood out.
Could explain why I got two jobs in one week when I used it. More expensive though.

Anything unusual can get peoples attention. A resume made of a
few off-white (like cream or ivory) pages will be noticed in a stack
of 100+pure white resumes.

At times, that's all the edge you need to get that job.
