Hey all, My bud has had one shroom in his drying chamber for about 2-3 days (already ate the others), and it is still kinda bendable...it should be cracker dry, right? Should he put more deccisant in the chamber? right now he has about 1 1/2 inches of it in there, and the shrooms are layin on a paper towel about 1 inche above it. One more question: aborts, he's had a bunch of em', and he picks them as soon as they start to go. He's harvested about 18-19 grams mostly dry shrooms off of about 6-7 casings (each cake individually cased in seperate casings) he thinks his casings may be a bit dry, as they look it. It's always humid in there, and he fans quite often. I know aborts are normal, but the most he harvested from a casing was like 2 big ass shrooms....is this normal considering that each casing only has 1 cake in there? well, thanks in advance for the input

i agree with twisted jay about cutting your shrooms in half. another thing you should do is to install a small fan in your drying box. also, damprid collects water and creates a sludge that is no good anymore, dump that out once in a while and refill when most of the white pellets are gone.
about your casings, they could be too dry like you said. lightly mist the surface but do not let water accumulate on it. be sure to keep the walls misted too that is another good way. fan a lot, i like to fan 4 times a day with my cased cakes. good results too

no you can't dry damprid in the oven. it's a use once and throw away product. you can however dry 'rechargable' dessicant such as silica gel. other people say epsom salt works too once charged but i don't have any experience with that.

thats what i thought ralphster44 as long as you keep the damp-rid of the bottom so it doesn't get mushy it should be ok.

I disagree with the cut them tek . IMHO this destroys the "vitamins " inside . Just put then on a rack of some sort for 36-48 hours with a small fan blowing on them . Then put in an airtight chamber with 2-3 pounds of Damp rid below them wait at least 3 days and check , if they snap like a dry twig they are done , if not leave in for a couple more days . Cousin IT picks and handles his mushies as delicately as possible so as to minimize bruising . It is his theory that the more you beat them up the less good stuff they will have after whole process . Damp(edit verbal dislexia ) rid can be reused , by baking in oven at 350 for 1 hour , it does not work as well but is fully reusable .

I've been using Drierite, its rechargable, is in bead form and has worked great, although I'm not filling up a drying chamber like Houshroom judging by his picture (good work).
