and YOU should read "the challenge of democracy" by janda, it describes the foundations of american government, and why it seems to be failing right now.

im not pro government at all, i just think people in other countries who dont understand it should keep their mouths closed. thomas jefferson said it himself, that the government should be overthrown and altered every political generation, which is about 19 years.

Marxism in full swing! I think it's probably true to say that those with the eyes to see will begin a revolution of sorts, whether this will have the far reaching affect that is necessary is left to be seen, however the way I see it, if the following few years are as crucial as people say, then the fate of our species and indeed of most life on this planet rests in what happens in the coming years. I ask this question of anyone who wishes to answer it - How best to serve the earths best interest in the coming years? What needs to be done to provide for the future? Everyone is very good at making grand claims but i'm curious as to what solutions are on offer. Personal betterment has been offered here, is this in the spiritual sense? is a God of sorts presupposed? How can I, or any other like me, begin this journey?

I don't see the prospect of a marxist revolution as a positive development. Quite the contrary. In fact, any marxist that brings his revolution to my vicinity will get one bullet in his chest and one between the eyes, with me pulling the trigger.

That's quite a prejudiced view Rhizoid.. Marxism can only work once humans change, as voltaire said "there can be no perfect government while men have passions".

What about a passion for love, evolution, and free will? I think this guy was proving a point when he said this, and it wasn't that people must change to fit the ideal of a perfect government..

But I have no idea of what else this guy said or what his intentions where.. :grin: That's just the way that I perceive it from just that statement alone..

Voltaire, as i interpret it, was reffering to passions in the destructive sense, a passion for monetary gain, passion in anger, passion in destructive behaviour and so on. For a truly communist government to function, man must not be concerned with these things.

On the other hand, another interpretation would be that a "perfect" government is one with no dissent, and if man has no passion then he is likely to fully obey that which is laid down to him by his government, and therefore there will be no dissent, and following this no pressure for social change. I take the first interpretation, others may disagree.

The prejudice here would be to believe that marxism can bring prosperity and happiness.

There is nothing prejudiced about shooting revolutionaries who come to your community with the intent of stealing your stuff and sending you to labor camps if you don't obey them. That's what marxism is about, when you cut away all the superficial crap.

Of course, if some group of individuals voluntarily and consensually want to live among themselves with a marxist economy, marxist justice, and marxist labor policies, that's fine with me. Strangely enough marxists seldom try this experiment.
