Quote:
Spiritual awakening is waking up to the truth of your being. Assagioli, the founder of Psychosynthesis said that 95% of our energy is spent defending, protecting and maintaining our self-image -- and it's all an image, imagination! When you ask yourself, "Who am I?" you don't get an answer because there is no one to answer that question. Ordinarily you become confused, dumbfounded or frightened. You are awareness itself and therefore all you are left with when you ask, "who am I?" is just pure awareness and that's it. The mind will want to make something concrete out of that but there's nothing concrete about our true nature because it is not something that comes and goes like matter. It is spirit-consciousness. This spirit-consciousness produces thoughts out of itself and we live from these thoughts (beliefs, ideas, conditioning, imagination and emotions. We make them so real that we identify totally with them. However, we miss something greater that never changes and is both unborn and undying known as pure awareness. It is Presence. It is Being.

Fear is resistance to what-is.
I like this.
I do not like the term spiritual. Fuck that.
That aside I agree with a lot of what is here. I don't think the ego is all villian however. The ego structure becomes distorted and inflated. It is however a necessary part of what we do here as a human animal.
Rational emotive takes care of this "problem". Nothing spiritual about it IMO.

That is a first-rate fake statistic.
I agree with the sentiment however.

My body I will give to pleasures, to diversions that I’ve dreamed of, to the most daring erotic desires, to the lustful impulses of my blood, without any fear at all, for whenever I will— and I will have the will, strengthened as I’ll be with contemplation and study— at the crucial moments I’ll recover my spirit as was before: ascetic.”

IMO attachment to any image or construct can have equal power in negative statements and views. Even statements like;
"I do not like the term spiritual."
Painting the ego as "villain" gives the ego power of importance.
Like oil and water, the ego seems determined to separate itself, from its "host" and others, which is obviously important in maintaining itself. It does not fear negatives.
Objective observation is the key, not eradication, or "resistance to what is"
