I have eaten a P Pelliculosa lookalike. It had a really meaty flavor and was delicous but didn't poison me. I know which mushroom it was.

I ate a Chlorophyllum molybdites once on a trip with a friend... It was before I was into identifying my own, and is kinda what got me into identification. I had gone to a pasture with my friend to look for cubes near san fran and we found this huge mushroom that looked like a cube and said since it was my first time out I could eat it... I consumed the large cap (about 4 inches across) that night with a glass of milk and later passed into sleep without notice of any effects coming on. I didn't start feeling sick till like 2 the next afternoon when I was puking in my toilet and spinning in my head, similar to vertigo, it was scary as fuck! I had the worst diahrea (i wont go into that yet.), and was puking my brains out. I consumed water the whole time and eventually made it to the hospital within a few hours. They strapped this bag around my waist to catch the sprays of bloody diahrea (oh yeah how sexy.)and ran a tube into my mouth pumping charcoal into my stomach.

I didnt fully recover till 6 days after the ingestion.
It was just about the worst experience of my life.

I'm lucky to be alive, and learned a great lesson in life.
(I also broke that kids arm with a 2X4, but dont tell anyone )

So this is a good reason to read the shroomery, and always get someone like good ol' Toxic here to make sure your shrooming experience is going to be a safe one!

"I ate some ps. cyanescens, thinking they were just skitake, from the store. Turned out, the symptoms weren't too shabby. "
Theres a story called "the boy who cried wolf"... you should read up... what are you like 10? you need to be 18 to be on this site... If your 18 and still make up little bits of nonsense like that your going to have no social life.

Stay safe everyone.

where are you getting your data? the only real mushroom poisoning data i can find is from the NAMA reports which only has about two thousand reports from 30 years. do you have another source to share? id love to read that!

BTW: I have a strong feeling that anyone who has been poisoned by mushrooms has since left the community  :smirk:

i think it would depend on the type of toxin. poisonings that just cause discomfort might not dissuade me. an encounter with an amanita poisoning might scare me. but i dont fuck with the amanita family yet so thats not as issue...

but i intentionally ate a chicken of the woods specimen from a eucalyptus tree to see if i would get any ill effect. i did not. have talked with several others who have never have had a bad experience with western chickys on eucalyptus so...

At the beginning of the season, my friend and I didn't know shit about actives. We collected every single mushroom we could find then spread them out and tried to ID them at home. We didn't eat any but still both felt really crappy all week until we quit this method. We had sinus trouble, loss of appetite, and nausea that came and went. It must have just been from touching lots of poisonous mushrooms and breathing in a variety of spores.

ive never heard of that. it was my understanding that the toxins are only poisonous when metabolized or eaten. i thought it was just mycophobia that people think amanita spores for instance can poison you...

Pain is temporary. It may last for a minute or an hour or a day or even a year but eventually it will subside and something else will take its place. If I quit, however, it will last forever.

When I was pretty young (about 17 or 18), I ate Chlorophyllum molybdites thinking they were one of the edible parasol mushrooms.

I fried them in butter and ate about 3 or 4 caps.  They were the absolute tastiest mushrooms I've ever eaten.  They weren't too tasty the next time I saw them.

I got a weird off balance feeling about 3 or 4 hours after eating them, eventually went to bed and ended up about 2 or 3 hours later kneeling in front of the porcelain alter.

Lots of talking to RALPH for a couple hours.  Cramps, sweats, no fun.

It was a good learning experience.

I undercooked a bunch of oyster mushrooms and got bad stomach cramps and diarrhea.
I made some pasta sauce and threw in tons of uncooked oysters.  I got sick that night but for some reason didn't realize it was from the food I ate. So lime an idiot I ate leftivers the next day and got really sick.
It wasn't like I was dying,  but it was surprisingly painful.

I have always heard that Turbinellus (Gomphus) floccossus is toxic, but I had eaten it many times without effect.  I decided to test its toxicity by making a meal centered around this mushroom.  I cooked a very large amount well, added some salt, pepper and cream and served it on tostadas.

In the morning I had diarrhea.  Wasn't so bad though, didn't feel otherwise sick at all, and it passed quickly.  Felt fine the rest of the day.

I see this species sold in markets often, and that's fine, as long as you don't eat a pound of them like I did.

Microwaved frozen chimichangas have the same affect on me.  I like the hot on the outside, frozen in the middle textures though.

are these two different instances? or does undercooked here mean raw?

What kind of wood were these oysters growing from?
Were they actual oysters (Pleurotus ostreatus)? ...or were they angel wings (Pleurocybella porrigens)?
....could just be a reaction your body is having, possibly regarding the wood it was growing from.... its not normal for people to get sick eating oyster mushrooms... undercooked could be it too, most peoples digestive systems have a hard time with raw mushrooms.. could also be that the mushrooms were not prime and it might be the live bacteria that made you sick.... such as hidden bird poop on your mushrooms... lots of possibilities.
