I'm a lover of Psychill music. I love downtempo, atmospheric, bleeps, bloops and trippy melodies. Tonight I stumbled on the full soundtrack of the Donkey Kong Country game series on youtube and started to listen to it because I knew for years that I used to really dig a song from that game when I played it as a youngster. I thought, hell! why not give it a shot? Listen to the soundtrack and try to find that song that's been haunting me even if I cannot even remember how it used to sound like.
I found it. At 1 hour, 37 min, 25 seconds.
Before I got there, I really thought I'd found it, two or three times, listening to tracks from the soundtrack but then, here it was, for sure and dang I still like it a lot. And you know what? I know why I used to like it: because it friggin' sounds like a psychill track! That's right! In 1995, some Donkey Kong supernintendo game featured psychill music! Don't believe me? Have a listen:
Like I said, skip to 1 hour, 37 minutes, 25 seconds to listen to it, it's titled Stickerbush symphony.
Anyone else digz?

Absolutely
Some music from that era of video gaming is very special to me...and when I started getting in to 'electronic music' years ago I'd forgotten that I'd already had a love for electronic music, but I just didn't really see it like that - at the time, it was just video game music - cause that was the only place I'd ever heard anything like it. Then I grow up a bit and find that there's a whole world of electronic music...and it blew me away. Then when I got an SNES at a garage sale and found myself playing Donkey Kong, Mega Man, etc etc, I was really impressed with some of the music and I found it immensely amusing that I was into electronic music way before I really 'knew' it.
Some of it is very moving for me...quite a bit more so than even some well known artists in the electronic scene. Could just be the ties to the gaming experience, I dunno. But cool post; thanks for sharing. I bet it was an awesome (re)discovery.

Oh, for sure, there's a lot of music from that time, even from the NES era that always moved me for some reason, even as a kid. It did seem I was the only one amongst my friends who felt it this intensely though. Maybe that's why I went on to produce music later on in my life, it takes that special kind of appreciation, sensitivity.
And it seems I'm not the only one digging that Donkey Kong track and thinking it's a full fledged electronic gem, here's a remix of it in full-on psychill mode:
This sent me on a binge! I'm finding all sorts of videogame music that were remixed by very talented producers, Chrono Trigger, Castlevania etc. The rabbit hole is endless!
