Requirements for a President
    #1897220 - 09/09/03 04:53 AM (20 years, 6 months ago)

Should a President be able to display a reasonable level of intelligence before being allowed to take up office?

Any guesses as to how Bush would fair in an IQ test?

I havent got anything against stupid people per se its just they tend to do stupid things! Then again they are usually easy to manipulate by "cleverer" types as they dont really have a fucking clue whats going on.

IQ tests are not really an accurate measure of intelligence anyway...

Well you could test knowledge of History, Current affairs, general knowledge etc Surely the posistion of president demands a higher than average level in all these areas.

Intellegence is all relative. For example, those that fall for the utopian socialist agenda are pretty stupid in my book. Besides, you're English, it's none of your business anyways.

As I have mentioned a thorough knowledge of histroy, world affairs etc should be expected of someone who is supposedly the leader of the "free world" and that dear inny, is why it has something to do with me, as I am a memeber of the "free world". So really we should all get a say in those farces you amusingly refer to as "democratic elections".

You as a british citizen should NEVER have a say as to who is president of the united states.  You can express your opinion but those are like assholes.

Oh so when you said intelligence is relative you meant it is relative to the degree which another persons views agree with your twisted little world view! Who the hell needs IQ tests??

comprehension is a good sign of intelligence.

IQ tests are not a good indicator of those that posses common sense, in order to be intelligent, common sense has to be involved.

The only requirement to become president should be that you recieve the most votes, which fuckface didn't do.

Seriously,we need to get rid of the electorial college. We are well beyond the technological means of doing so.It's a stupid, outdated, elitist system.

I actually agree with this. With that said the US has to accept the fact that GWB won FAIR and SQUARE according to the laws that were present at the time of the election. The whole "he stole the election" thing is intellectually dishonest.

Bush is pretty dumb but we've had dumb presidents before.
intelligence isn't really the issue since most of the real work is handled by the president's people.
but just for kicks I would like to see someone like Tim Russert grilling Bush on policy issues. that should be good. it wont take more than five seconds for Bush to expose himself.

Yeah, it's pretty sad when someone who is just a figurehead and is just supposed to be a good speaker can't read a single speach without one fuckup.

Even the most intelligent person can be a poor public speaker.
(and no, I'm not claiming Bush is the most intelligent speaker)
Some people just choke when under the spotlight.

I agree with the electoral college being a waste of time. I guess though, if it was that big of an issue some politicians would be looking for an ammendment to get rid of it. I think both sides know it can work both ways. I still hate it though.

You don't have to have snorted coke to be a lousy public speaker. Some people just choke in front of an audience. I don't remember where I read it but some who know Bush have said in private he can be quite articulate.

I imagine if I was speaking to a few hundred million people everytime I opened my mouth, I'd choke too.

Perhaps after Reagan and Clinton you just got used to good talkers.
