karo in a syringe
    #1892276 - 09/07/03 11:45 PM (13 years, 3 months ago)

can i just suck up my karo culture into syringes and store, or must i keep it in the jar and use as i go. i'd like to just get a supply of ready syringes instead of having to innoc, then refill and so on and so forth.

I seriously doubt that will be a problem. I would however put it in the fridge when it has grown enough in order to make it last a bit longer.

Do there need to be a whole shitload of mycelium in the syringes or is any part of the karo water now viable? Tried to suck some up and could only get a few chunks. Inocc 7 WBS jars, three days later, nothing so something is definatley wrong.

If you can't see the mycellium chances are it isn't there.

but since it germinated in the karo water wouldn't there still be viable mycelium even if it's microscopic?

I inoculated a jar of WBS with karo and some more jars with spore solution. After a week, the jar I used the karo in showed hardly any growth. The jars I started with spore solution were covered. I did it as an experiment and found that, I think I'll stick to spores!

Same thing happened to AFOAF. It's not such a big deal though. Just a few more days. It seems worthwhile if working with isolates but other than that, there is no real rush.

This is just plain wrong. Mycelium is a network of hyphae, which are in themselves too small to see with the naked eye. However, for practical purposes, visible mycelium is more likely to survive the injection process. I have found that liquid cultures are best used in liberal amounts, and most effective injected into a shakeable substrate, i.e. a grain jar or a mycobag.

karo is not too advanced for me, for being a newbie i have had no contams and the myclium growth showed within a few days, my karo is spreading like wildfire and i have 12 jars ready to go and about 20 more about to innoc. i take this very seriously as anyone else who is determined here does. i may be new but i am not underadvanced or stupid, i am working with two types of substrates and two different strains in an almost hospital like sterile enviroment, and i've done my homework.so for a newbie, i am doing fucking great and i hope whoever you were directing that towards shows you up. so don't start posting things like "maybe its too advanced 4 u". dont undermine other peoples abilities, encourage them.

What a stupid thing to say!! It seems the one lacking experience is you! How hard is it to create karo water!
