i dont see why being better than somebody at something should necessarily make you 'feel superior' to them? there is no necessary link between being better and ego, which imo was missing from the discussion

:lol: I hadn't considered it, I just got confused between confidence and self-doubt, :sorry:.

I suppose there is the confidence that you place in others or in a system or mechanism. You could argue that to have confidence in these things, then you would have to have confidence in your ability to decide whether or not to place confidence in said subject.

I don't really see it as a struggle, just life, and it comes from being over confident at a young age. When something challenges your self confidence you have two constructive options, you can find a way to bypass the challenge or learn to be confident in the face of that challenge.

It is an illusion. A limited view of what exists both in time and in space. There are lots of things taller than the tallest man. And many things smaller than the smallest toe.

Don't misunderstand me. I think the illusion serves a lot of purposes for humanity but it doesn't make it real :shrug:

well thanks man. i would worry if you thought you were superior because superiority complexes cause suffering and i'd be worried about trying to help you out... but dont worry. i guess i am just a better person. :shrug:

You don't have to worry about curing depression for people who feel superior. Most of them live happy lives without ever knowing. It's the ones that feel superior inferiority you should worry about and help. My guess is that it will be much easier than the prior. And make sure you get a degree in psychiatry before you go out curing people confidently and all. I'm guessing you wouldn't want to cause damage that isn't already there.

And on a side note, I agree with Kickle that it's an illusion. It's like two artists believing their own work is superior to the others. Which one of them is right? Would a majority vote deciding that one is superior to the other make that work inherently superior? I don't think it would. It's either all or nothing for me.

I agree for the most part. Creating an environment for yourself that allows you to be open in this way is IMO very important. Hiding aspects of ourselves seems to be one of the most harmful things we can do.


I definitely agree with this and think it's the cause of a lot of stress, for certain personality types, anyway. The problem is that it's difficult to create a space such that one can express themselves in a positive way. I kindof need help with this.. It starts to become really difficult when my living situation is taken into consideration. I think that's one of the the first things that needs to change, and I can work on altering my stress-response in the mean time...

Man, I've seriously got to start sourcing quotes. This quote likely wasn't from einstein. Sorry shroomery. Now that I double checked it, the quote doesn't seem as high quality as you'd expect from einstein. My confidence in the quote two years ago really backfired on me right now. I hate being foolish.
