Because there has been a lot of success not over welming someone by omitting all habits. Having been to several rehabs myself I can vouche for the necessity to allow smoking. Rehab is a business, if u have a no smoking policy, addicts will go elsewhere.

So, does this mean they don't care about keeping your body healthy, but rather, keeping you from using mind-altering drugs?

Theyre not trying to rehabilitate your body. Instead the goal is to rehabilitate your mind so you can reintegrate into the popular society. Cigarettes carry little stigma, are inexpensive, and wont mitigate your chances of passing pre employment drug tests nor impair your judgement. Also, cigarettes are legal. All in all, cigarettes are a relatively normal thing in society.

It's because cigs don't fuck with you mentally and ruin your life like drugs do. You can smoke just fine and still go to work and function like a normal adult. Except your sex life. Your dick won't work, but everything else! Lol

They sold cigarettes at my last rehab, I never really smoked before that but while in rehab I was smoking 2-3 packs a day. The fucks wouldn't let us have coffee though, that really pissed me off.

faster than a case of beer a day or a heroin habit? Probably not. Besides, not everyone smokes a pack or two a day, that is heavy smoking.

I've literally never known a smoker to smoke less than a pack a day. Every single person I know who's smoked (and it's a lot, practically every single person I've known) was a heavy smoker, including me.

A cigarette habit could be on par with a heavy drinker's alcohol habit.

Goddamn, that's insane. I mean, coffee is less addictive than smokes, and the physical harm is miniscule or zilch.

I would agree that they don't alter your mental state very much, but they can ruin your life, I lost a relative to lung cancer.

Dude what I realized about rehab is that it's for pretty much heroin, meth, and crack addicts.

I was at a loss to even come up with a drug of choice, had already been 2 months clean from my SERIOUS addiction (k2), and had only drank or used drugs of any sort like 5 times in those 2 months.

I guess when you're in a psych ward because you got high on gabapentin and your parents thought it was a suicide attempt (my liver is giggling at the notion that 22 gabapentin could hurt me), rehab seems a lot better.

Left after 2 weeks. Still need to send hate mail to my counselor, but I don't really have enough good karma to cash in.

I've been to five different rehabs the best thing I got was a girlfriend out of one. The problem is half the patients don't want to be there so the attitude in most treatment center sucks!
