Found an albino cricket in my cricket terrarium.

I found this albino cricket when I was gathering crickets to feed to my gecko.


I thought it was pretty cool and was wondering if anyone else has stumbled across genetically mutated animals before.

Never mind, apparently that means that it just moulted.:cookiemonster:

I found one once.  my leopard gecko ate him all the same. no indication of taste difference.

Do you breed your own crickets?

How do you keep em alive long enough, and what do you keep them in?

I have a tarantula, so I think it might be cheaper to raise my own instead of buying weekly.

They just die so quickly

I wish I could get a tarantula, but they only allow "small lizards" here.

Anyways, on the topic of crickets, yes, I raise my own.
I don't buy enough for them to breed, but I suppose I could; I have some loose coir in there just in case.
The tub is 66 quarts with a couple of screen meshes cut and placed into holes on the top so the crickets get air.

I have water in there in a teak-wood bowl.
I use teak-wood because they can climb on it, but anything with traction will do.
I also put a small "island" in the center of the bowl that they can climb on.
The "island is just a few pieces of cardboard.

The bottom is lined with vermiculite to keep the smell in check.
Dermestid larvae generally come with the box of crickets and they'll eat the corpses.

I feed them Flukers cricket feed, it's pretty cheap and lasts a pretty long time.

I end up spending around 10 dollars a month on crickets.
The gecko eats about 5 a day, you'll have to do the math for your tarantula of course.

tarantulas are great pets, and i've always had lizards. Bearded dragons, water dragons, gekos, and have had the pleasure of a few others.

my tarantula can go around 2 years without food, but he likes to eat at least a cricket a day.

or a few crickets every few days.
