Caapi clippings!

So I have a pretty bad track records with trying to grow plants. Its been a while so I wanna give it another try! I decided to go for caapi clippings.. I could use ANY helpful tips. I should probably get a grow light, but I have no clue where to start. I appreciate any advice:peace:

Google "cfl grow cab". That should provide you with lots of ideas on a simple setup. Take potting soil, add some more perlite to help with drainage. Place in appropriate sized pot, plant your caapi, I'd suggest you mulch with compost. Don't over water, and mist it semi regularly. This works with all sorts of plants, too. You'll have a green thumb in no time.

compact fluorescent would work, metal halide would be better

What type of stores would have metal halide bulbs? Or is it something Im better off ordering online?

Can find in some garden stores or order on line

Why have you got the caapi cutting in the same pot as a cactus?

You should be putting the caapi cutting in some moist seedling mix in its own pot, not in a dry sandy cactus mix. If it grows roots then it'll end up competing with the cactus for root space and nutrients.

About the ones in water, you might want to add rooting hormone to get them to root sooner...

Yea thats only for short term, I will be getting a mini greenhouse soon hopefully.

Rooting hormone?? Any kind works. They have powders and liquids... I have a liquid rooting hormone

Indole-3-butyric acid. Just buy a rooting hormone powder rated for semi hardwood cuttings.

I cant believe how quickly the leaves are growing on these babies! Not seeing much root growth yet. I also need to root 5 San Pedro cuttings very soon... I was recommended this for the cacti, http://www.amazon.com/Schultz-93183-TakeRoot-Rooting-Hormone/dp/B004NEBR1U... would this also help to root the caapi clippings?

I get good results with caapi cuttings in water. I put a little bit of peroxide in the water and change it every few days or when it looks dirty. Most will root, wait until you have a good amount of roots then put in soil under a humidity dome. After the plant starts growing on its own you can take the dome off. I sometime skip the dome part if the roots look good.
