hi folks! well... if one walked by a huge caapi vine, how should one proceed in order to take cuttings of it? rooting in water or in a vase? i searched the net and found little or nothing about caapi cultivation... if anyone can give me any tips or links i would be very thankful...

i'd let the cutting root in a vase, perhaps with some rooting hormone sprinkled on the fresh cut....
but i'm ipotizing, never got a fresh caapi vine :frown:

yup... i think it may take a little long to root since it's got a hard bark...  anyways, i think one should have to play a little bit with it in order to master it... perhaps if one is successfull caapi might become more frequent on enthusiasts gardens... pray for me.

Place the cutting in a pot of moist sandy soil (not water), and make sure its a thick (1"+), woody piece, green stems won't root.

Don't bother with Bc unless you live in a year round warm climate, or have a heated greenhouse, since it takes a few seasons before its useable, and it grows like mad in the warm months.

Hawaii is ideal . . .

thanks armedia! they're not as thick as an inch but they're about 2cm thick. it's interesting to see that they're actually many vines that stick together and grow up! i've put them with my new salvia cuttings in a window sill type vase with rich soil and humus mix and with a plastic bag around it and a little rooting hormone... one of these days i dreamed i just came there and pulled a cutting out in order to see if there was root... lol... and there was... i'll post pictures as soon as there's something beautiful to show... do you live in hawaii? i think i should have no problems here in S.A....
