Getting new couches or sectional. Best material?
    #18446288 -

when you have pets? I have 3 dogs and a cat.  Two of the dogs are only 10 lbs.

Whats the best kind of material to get for furniture when you have lots of pets?  I would just train them not to sit on the furniture but the two small dogs have been pretty much trained to be spoiled and thats it. (not my fault )

Leather, or a faux leather substitute.

Leather doesn't really absorb water, so you can (literally) just wipe down the couches with a damp cloth.  In addition, leather is somewhat "slick", so any fur or hairs can be wiped right off.  When you have cloth, pet hairs tend to get "stuck" to the furniture.

I just got leather, and have 3 dogs.  It's a world of difference from micro-fiber.  Muddy paws?  Just wipe right down.  Hairs?, Just wipe them right off.

Don't get leather unless you want your cat to destroy it.

Yeah, didn't see the cat part.  I'd think that a cat will take out ANY material though.  Thus far, no scratches or tears from my three little 12-15 lb doggies.

Yeah she loves leather much more than other fabric for some reason.  I dont want to get her de-clawed.

What to do ?

Yeah, that is true. We have a leather reclining movie chair, and they leave it alone since we put in the bedroom. We have a cotton couch cover, like one huge condom for your couch. The cats don't touch the couch anymore but now one of the litter fuckers has resorted to scratching the carpet.

Was a sales manager for a furniture store for 5 years, go with leather.  Depending on the how bad your animals shed, materials like microfiber, suede, or general upholstery, will more than likely end up with a fur blend as well.

Cats and leather don't go too well together.  Maybe keep a water gun handy.  Usually this will keep them away from stuff and is humane.  There's also organic sprays you can put around your furniture if the water gun doesn't work.

(EDIT:  Also, keep the pets nails trimmed and filed.  Sharp nails will leave marks on leather that stick out pretty bad.)

Water gun def works on her, but what do you do when your not home? I would basically have to get something to work when we are away.

Would also work when no one is around.  They should carry it at Petco or at an organic nature store.

I have to agree, my couch has scratches and marks all over the top of the arm rests and the top of the couch. They stand out really bad.

I think I will eventually replace my couches with a micro fiber in calico color
