does fine vermiculite work?

afoaf just bought verm but it's very fine not like the pics he saw on the web. When he mixed up his jars he put 2X the h2o (the PF tek) and it still wasn't at field capacity. Does anyone have any ideas or has anyone used fine verm before. Should he use that much water

Well I only use straight rye, but as far as I now you only use fine verm.

You put twice the amount of water??? You're doing something wrong if it wasn't at field capacity...

Your ratio should be 2:1:1 Verm/BRF/water


please explain to me what you think field capacity is...

yeah really. i use fine in PF cakes and substrates and teh coarse verm for casing layers. fine colonizes faster in jars in my experience.

thanks, I think the problem was that there was a hole in the bottom of the bag and i poured out of that. So what i used was the shake. From what I read field cappacity is when you tilt the bowl and a small puddle forms right?
