Coarse Vermiculite solution
    #2020924 - 10/18/03 06:15 PM (13 years, 1 month ago)

I noticed around my area, fine vermiculite is hard to find.

So, I simply grind up the coarse verm. in a blender. I guess you could used a coffee grinder as well. Just be sure to wear a good dust mask(3M) when doing this to protect your lungs.

I use the coarse vermiculite in the substrate, but for the top dry layer, I use the fine grain. It seems to keep out contams much more effectively than coarse vermiculite.

Just my 2cents:)

OMG! Be very careful doing that. You can get some pretty serious lung diseases doing that. When you are working with verm you should minimize the amount of dust that gets in the air or wear a face mask of somekind. What you are doing will kick alot of the verm into the air. you should wear some kind of protection.
