A friend wants to know how long Marijuanna seeds can be kept before they are unable to sprout.

I thought they lasted pretty much as long as they didnt rot, i dunno though, id be interested to know if someone has a confirmed answer.

they last pretty long if not exposed to heat, lots of air and water.
so put them in a jar in you closet or something.youll at least have a good year, prolly longer.

They can last 5 years or even more.

To make them last longer, you could put them in the freezer..

For all seed storage it's best to vaccuum seal a very very dry bottle and store them in the fridge. Some put them in a freezer, but the inside of the seed does have moisture in it and freezing certain seeds will rupture the cells of the embryo inside. This doesn't happen to all but happens to some, so I just stick em in the fridge. Works about the same I'd say.

Though the cheap way i do it is, put them in tin foil and make a nice packet, and stick them in a mason jar and put them in the crisper with a silica gel packet in the jar. I'm poor what can i say.

i HAVE HAD SEEDS FOR OVER 10 YEARS IN A BAG...........THROWN I NTHE BOTTOM OF A DRAWER.........THEY STILL SPROUTED..
i PUT THE DRY SEEDS IN A SMALL GLASS BOTTLE OR JAR.WITH WATER AND A AIR HOSE.........LET THEM BUBBLE TILL THE SEED SINKS....ABOUT 24 HOURS MAX.........THEN POP THEM AS USUAL.......LONG ASS TAP ROOTS........WOOOOOO HHHOOOOOOOO

I have heard seeds can last as long as 20 years, though my experience of oldest seeds is now 8 years as per tested/grown out by friends. Northern Lights seeds from 1995. IME they take longer to germinate and there's more duds. Storage was in brown paper bags in a cool dry drawer.

It's also a good idea with old seeds to dust them with copper oxychloride (an active constituent in tomato dust sold at a garden center) to avoid damping-off (pythium attack) as older seeds take longer to germinate and they might rot esp. in rockwool.
