why does my android phone keep crashing?

My phone is a Droid X. It just keeps crashing. It never crashes when charging in a car or on a laptop's USB port or an electric outlet, but when it's not plugged in, it crashes almost all the time even when the battery is full. This just started happening when I charged it inside another car that wasn't mine. I thought that maybe the battery of that car was just too strong that it messed up my phone. It charged my phone completely in minutes, not hours. So maybe that had something to do with it. When my battery is 100% full, I use it but the charge lessens in just minutes of use when it used to be powerful for hours. It went from 100% full to 20%, then it powers off. Anyway, the phone is over 2 years old maybe it's time to switch to a new one. I still like Android, but I hate Verizon. Any recommendations out there regarding phones or services? I mainly use my phone for: calls, texts,internet, GPS, and tethering. A smartphone is required for tethering as far as I know. I'm looking for the cheapest phone service with Android phones. Is Cricket or Virgin the cheapest phone service providers out there? It's probably time to switch as I am paying close to 100 bucks a month. I don't think  it's worth it considering what I use my phone for most of the time. My minutes usage don't even go past over 300 minutes so why would I need a 450 minute service you know?

Sounds like you need to buy a new battery. I've been very happy with tmobile...as long as I can get signal. I have strong 4g in most urban areas, but I have noticed serious connection issues out in the rural areas of ohio, where it seems only at&t has service. Tmobile is pretty inexpensive compared to verizon if you don't live out in the boonies though.

$60/month +$5 for insurance = unlimited everything, but kicks me down to 3g data after 2gb data.

A cell phone's battery needs changing? I always thought since it is rechargeable it requires no change?

Rechargeable batteries lose their ability to hold a charge the more they are used. Your battery is almost 2 years old, b so it has probably seen a lot of use. Also, you could have accidentally damaged the battery when you plugged it in, but I can't be certain about that. Batteries are pretty cheap tho...I think my replacement battery for my note cost $8

Cellphone battery might have worked it self loose if you dropped the phone. I would make sure to take the battery out and put it back in to make sure its connected properly. But most likely bad battery....
