I was walking in a coffee plantation and a lady approached me and asked what I was doing. I told her I was looking for mushrooms, and she sent out her 3 kids to look for mushrooms with me. This yellow one is the first interesting thing they found. I ended up staying with their family for 3 days, they are Zapotec indians.

Absolutely fantastic follow up once again on your Mexican adventures :thumbup: I'm not in the MH&I forum as much as I used to, but this posts suggests I should frequent this place a bit more often.

What is the primary source for your information on the more arcane species you find around there, Alan? Many of them I have never even heard of and do not occur anywhere near where I live.

Btw, I love the macro shots, particularly the third cyathus pic. The lighting really works well in that one :thumbup:

Best thread yet! Korak's choice of the word arcane is an excellent one. I can't think of any other way to describe those Pseudofistulina.

What did you eat when you stayed with the zapotecas? What did they do for a living? Were they happy with the quality of their lives? Did you learn any interesting hongo lore from them? Will you ever visit that family again?

Sick! I agree with Koraks, that 3rd Cyathus picture is dope. How did you do that? Just turn it upside and the eggs fall out like that?

How the hell do you keep track of all your stuff down there? I mean you got photography equipment, microscopy equipment, laptop, loads of mushrooms, etc etc etc... I would go crazy trying to keep all that organized.

Love those beauty P mexicana microscopy shots! The cystidia are so vibrant! How do you expose so many like that, is that what's called a crushed mount?

Gaston Guzman, Alonso & mushroomobserver.org are able to put names on 99% of the things that I find.

I dig them out with a needle, then make the shutter speed really fast and the fstop narrow, manual focus close and flash the hell out of it.

All that stuff fills up the jeep pretty well...

The colors are vibrant because I used a nice phase contrast microscope.  I put a very tiny amount of gill on a slide, rehydrated it with KOH and crushed the hell out of it.
