5 month year old puppy. Snarling, biting, growling, agressive.

I've got a lab/beagle mix. He is still not potty trained. I've been trying the kennel training method of potty training. Most of the day for the time I've had him he'll be in the kennel and I will take him out up to 4 times an hour when I am at home and able. When I leave him out of the kennel and I', not looking for about 10 minutes he will end up peeing on everything. It started off on just the carpet, now it's on my things (my dirty clothes pile, guitar case, blankets) and the carpet wherever he feels like going. I've taught him a few commands like "come", "sit", "paw" (shake), and "kennel" (he'll head straight for the kennel). The last 2 weeks he's been aggressive with me whenever I tell him to get in the kennel. Just a few minutes ago I told him "kennel" and when I went to shut the cage he growled at me. A few days ago was the worst. He peed on a blanket, I told him "no" and went to grab him by the collar to put him in the kennel and he growled and then snapped at me, drawing blood from both of my thumbs. The first sign of this behavior was 2 weeks ago. I let him out for his morning pee, fed him and let him get some water, told him to sit and then gave him a treat. He usually has that routine everyday and then he will go jump into the bed where my girlfriend is still sleeping. That day he was a her feet, I wanted him out of the room so I went to grab the treat and he snarled and bit me. I am considering getting rid of him. Maybe it's me as an owner and trainer but his behavior is driving me nuts. He will sit in the kennel and bark and whine the first 20 minutes he's in there. I've told him "stop", "quiet", "shh", "shut up", and knocked on the kennel. what do I do? I've never had my own dog and to be honest I enjoyed life a whole lot more without him. My girlfriend insists on keeping him, we argue everyday because of this. Fucking irritated to the max sometimes. Will having his nuts chopped off chill him the fuck out

I train and show dogs.... First off, believe it or not, your dog doesn't understand "stop" and "shut up". It's entirely your fault that your dog misbehaves. Here are some pointers

*Take the dog outside, when they pee/poo, praise them and give them treats. Ween them off the treats, but keep going until they only pee/poo outside
*Yelping loudly when they bite/play bite will disturb them - they'll learn it's the direct reaction to the bite


I can go on and on, but the key to teaching a dog anything is POSITIVE REENFORCEMENT. Don't get mad at them if they don't do something -- just praise them if they do. Then they'll learn that unless they do what you tell them, they won't get a treat!

Also, unfortunately I think you missed the boat on getting your dog to like the kennel. It's when they're a puppy, you give them treats and nice dog beds in the kennel that they realize it's a comfort zone of sorts. You can still try to get your dog to like it, but the chances are significantly lower.

Great post.

All I can add that wasn't directly said is don't punish the pup/dog for something it has already done.

Rubbing it's nose in it will only confuse and freak it out. That said, being a little aggressive with him won't hurt when caught in the act. By aggressive I don't mean kicking him/her.
