That's a beautiful bit of creek. If it flooded pretty heavily like some other parts of Kentucky, it is worth looking further away from the creek, anywhere from 10-50 yards away. At least as high up as the creek recently flooded. If this is not the case, then try further downstream anywhere from where you've stopped before to down further on the creek or river into which this one flows. Good luck!

It is indeed beautiful. Tell you what, I went down there today with the intentions of hunting but got distracted by its sheer beauty and the aura of tranquility it gave off. I meditated on a log for a good hour or so. Haha I digress. By "recently flooded" do you mean within the last year? few years? or weeks/months? I traveled further downsteam today where it connects with a bigger creek, but the incline off the banks are pretty steep and it seems as if almost there was industrial work or something with all the broken concrete slabs in the water. Don't know how big my chance is finding them here. Edit: My biggest questions are:
1.) Proximity to the creek, how close how far?
2.) Substrate - Should I be looking through the big piles of sticks and logs? Under high grass? Or the sediments/sand along the bank? I've found them growing off of logs and wood chips so far.
3.) Elevation - Creek is pretty shallow, and not extremely wide. Where the banks incline, should I be up on the higher ground looking under the grass where wood is? Or down on the bank?

What are tell-tale signs of flooding in an area? Wood debris stacked up? Should I be checking wherever I see big wood piles accumulated regardless of the elevation? Sorry for being so inquisitive and asking so many questions. I'm just because its near mid may and I havn't found anything yet, compared to other years finding them early-late april.

The answer to literally all of those questions is "yes". Search all of those habitats. I think the biggest clusters are usually found appearing to grow from sandy soil (though in reality the woody debris buried under it) beneath short growing vegetation up above the banks in the stretch of land anywhere from creekside to approximately 150 feet directly perpendicular to the creek.
